4.0 out of 5 stars Luke's Pen now mightier than his sword.
I notice that Luke has some co-writers on various songs. But if he is the motive force behind the lyrics, then he really is letting us see into his soul. His guitar playing, superb as always although conventional, is cast into relief by the strength and meaning of the words.

1.0 out of 5 stars generic rock with no magical toto sound
Boring rock track after rock. Some experimentation with country music and some dull acoustic guitar driven tracks, but none of the melody of a good toto song. None of these melodies stand out. The harder rocking tracks are rubbish. Some vocal effects which also do not come off. No 'Borrowed time', no 'I am'. Just boring, dull rock music.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!, November 15, 2000
By A Customer

What a great cd. Steve Lukather is with out a doubt one of the best guitar players around today. The thing that sets him apart is the ability to write catchy songs with deep lyrics. This is a superb rock album, covering all styles from hard rock, pop, and even a little bit of country. If you want a great rock album that sticks in your mind long after you have turned it off, GET THIS CD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stuff, November 17, 2001

What can I say! Steve is a great song writer and he sings and plays guitar with such soul. A perfect example is the song "Tears of my own Shame" the third track on the album which has got to be my favourite. It has a really smooth, "jimi hendrix" like guitar riff that is just really funky - I just can't stop listening to it.This song's "fav" status is closely followed by several others on the album like "You'd always be there for me" in which he experiments with playing other instruments (he's a multi talented guy) and "Blue bird" is cool too. This is different from his Toto stuff, musicians and guitarists alike will love this album :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome!, October 13, 1999

I'd just sum my review up in a few words. Steve Lukather is without a doubt one of the the best singer/songwriter/guitarists on the planet today! This album shows a side of Steve that you're not going to get on any Toto albums (for the most part). There are influences from country to grunge on this disc, and it does take a few listens to fully appreciate it- but every song on this album is great. Now, only if the U.S record companies would give Steve and Toto the promotion and tour support they deserve, so more people are aware of some awesome music out there!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD but not his best.., September 17, 1999
By A Customer

I agree with everything that's been said here but rated it 4 stars. I reserve the 5 star rating for his earlier work, CANDYMAN. But I'm perplexed as to why it isn't available thru Amazon. If you don't own it, you need to. It's one of those CD's that is near perfection from top to bottom. Lukather is no doubt one of the best guitar players on the planet.

5.0 out of 5 stars LUUUUUUUUUKE! Love Ya Man, And I mean that baby!, May 18, 2007
This review is from: Luke (Audio CD)
Steve Lukather, or as his fans call him, Luke, is one of the greatest guitar players of all time, period. If you love guitar you owe it to yourself to get all of his solo albums as well as his work with Los Lobotomys and even El Grupo. This is a whole different thing than Toto. Toto is a great band as well, but that is his more commercial side. You should see him live to really appreciate his amazing talent, it is undeniable. Some of your favorite, well respected, bands have benefited from his guitar work as one of the biggest session guitar players of all time. As well as his guitar work, his voice is one of the best in rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best is not enough !!!, May 4, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Luke (Audio CD)
Once God had a great idea : the creation of guitar. After it's creation he said : " Now I need someone playng it !!" . So before came Jimi hendrix, then Frank Zappa and last Steve Lukather. Now I think you're asking yourself :"What does this means with this statement ?". Here's the answer: in the world there are few people which are able to play guitar and Steve is one of them .

4.0 out of 5 stars A winner, but a 4 star since I'm a tough reviewer, March 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Luke (Audio CD)
I loved the cd. I was unaware of Lukathers' solo career. This was my first of his, but had many Toto. I have recommended this cd to friends and family. I highly recommend this cd to any fan of music. If you are aware of Toto, you know the quality work they do and have done throughout the years. Any ballad by Lukather is worth the price of the cd alone. I actually bought it and sent it out as stocking stuffers to family. If you buy a cd, buy this one. You will not regret it.
