Kidnap Victim--Or Runaway Bride?

What would people think of her, Jenny Eriksen fumed. After all, she'd disappeared from her own engagement ball! And now she was trapped in a tumbleweed of a town, facing down Luke McLintock, a man with a mission, who'd stolen her away from her fiancé--body, soul...and heart!

Luke McLintock couldn't afford to fail. Yes, he'd "kidnapped" his boyhood friend's fiancée--but only because Jenny Eriksen was the key to a little boy's future. But beneath the wide Western skies Jenny had bloomed beyond her high-society restraints and Luke was wondering how he would ever be able to let her go!

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Cheyenne, a late 19th-century frontier town, serves as the backdrop for Bridges's galloping romantic suspense. Shortly after leaving a party celebrating her engagement to Daniel Kincaid, one of Denver's finest citizens, Jenny Eriksen and her companion, Olivia Gibson, are kidnapped by a "hotheaded cowboy" who claims he needs them to accompany him for just 36 hours. Still in their ball gowns, Jenny and Olivia endure a grueling boxcar ride to Cheyenne, where Jenny gradually learns the truth about her abductor, Luke McLintock, and her fianc . Luke and Daniel grew up together, and now Luke is on a mission to force Daniel to acknowledge Adam, the son he fathered with a Mexican woman. Although the five-year-old is now an orphan, Daniel refuses to acknowledge his moral lapse and instead sends his henchman to eliminate Luke and re-abduct Jenny. Sternly closing her heart against her feelings for Luke, a perpetual loner, Jenny nevertheless embraces Adam. It's a natural step, albeit one filled with spirited conflicts, for Luke and Jenny to realize that they can provide a loving home for Adam. Bridges (The Doctor's Homecoming) is comfortable in her western setting, and her characters' humorous sparring make this boisterous mix of romance and skullduggery an engrossing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A WONDERFUL ROMANCE GREAT OVERTONES, August 5, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Luke's Runaway Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Jenny Eriksen had some unplanned surprises for her kidnapper. and they turned out to be a bit humorous. Never before had she seen a man's naked chest.

Someone has just stolen 10,000 dollars from her fiance and then she meets a wounded man on his doorstep.
Olivia wanted to run.
You have to love the first meeting of Jenny and Luke McLintock.
and it just keeps getting better.

Luke was raised with Daniel but now there were no brotherly feelings between them as Daniel keeps denying little Adam and his responsibilities.

Jenny is taken on a journey that ends up revealing Daniel as so very different from what she had been lead to believe. Daniel was determined to have Jenny as his bride to solidify his connections with her father.
It sure takes daddy long enough to put in an appearance.

And then Daniel's thug, Harley shows up - now no one is safe. Harley's orders are to recapture Jenny and eliminate Luke.

Although Jenny can't believe Luke's tales of Daniel she soon falls in love with little Adam and is worried what will happen to him.
The child can't live in a saloon.

This is a very captivating - moving story - and this author is a keeper.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M

5.0 out of 5 stars Kate Bridges writes fantastic americana romance!, September 16, 2002
This review is from: Luke's Runaway Bride (Harlequin Historical) (Paperback)
Kate Bridges found a fan in this reviewer with her first book, THE DOCTOR'S HOMECOMING. She continues her streak of great books with her second release, LUKE'S RUNAWAY BRIDE.

Jenny Eriksen was content with her life in Denver. In four months she would be married to Daniel Kincaid-the epitome of whom she wants in her life. He organizes charity events and does what he can to further the community. But Jenny's life changes when Luke McLintock appears in her life.

Luke can't believe that the Daniel he grew up with could turn into a man who would shirk his responsibilities and lie to everyone he knows. Luke sets out to force Daniel to take care of his five year old son since the boy's mother has died. Daniel refuses so Luke takes action and kidnaps Daniel's fiancé. He plans on taking her back to Montana so that Daniel will come after her and be forced to see his child. What Luke doesn't plan on doing is falling in love with Daniel's fiancé.

Jenny is hard pressed to trust Luke, but she has a hard time denying what he says when she is faced with so many questions about Daniel's lifestyle. How could she have been so blind about who he really is? And maybe Luke isn't the bad guy in this situation?

Jenny and Daniel are brought together by an unlikely circumstance, but the end results are beautiful indeed! Kate Bridges has a way of bringing to life the time period but still filling it with beauty and humor and love. Kate Bridges is now on my must read list and I believe that she is one of the best writers of Americana romance today.
