Greg Lukianoff's new book, Unlearning Liberty is tour de force. The head of FIRE--the leading campus academic freedom and free speech organization in the country--Lukianoff combines a keen understanding of the problem of free speech on campus, and why it matters, with his remarkable personal and political experience as FIRE's leader. Lukianoff does a great job of showing how our institutions of higher learning are letting us down by not only neglecting to teach the importance of intellectual liberty, but by actually working against such liberty that lies at the foundation of the American experiment in government and citizenship. The book masterfully combines philosophical, political, and practical aspects of the battle for free speech on campus by a person with unique and important experience in this domain. A must read for anyone interested in campus intellectual freedom and the American prospect.
