By far, our favorite lullaby tape!,
By
This review is from: Lullaby: A Collection (Audio CD)
We are new parents, with a son now about three months old. Before he was born, we purchased several lullaby tapes, assuming we'd want some variety at bedtime (more for our own sanity than our son's!) However, since our son was only a few weeks old, we've found that he responds best to this tape, and my husband and I love it too. As the other parents attest, the music in this collection never gets boring, even after hearing it night after night. I can't say that about any other baby tape or CD that we own. If you're going to buy one lullaby collection, buy this one. In fact, as we discovered, it's the only one you'll need.

Soothing tunes for your wee one,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lullaby: A Collection (Audio CD)
We purchased this cassette for my son when he was about 2 months old and have kept it in the car for those inevitable wailing periods...you know, the ones where you're stuck in dead-stop traffic, have a terrific headache (not to mention are completely exhausted from not sleeping all night) and just can't get out of the car to soothe your babe. This tape is such a magic pill that I'm buying the CD for home as well as a copy for a friend with a new baby. Our son quiets as soon as the beautiful Swedish lullaby comes on (simple enough to learn and hum yourself at other times, btw) and conks out by the time Thula Mtwana is over. That song in particular (by Ladysmith Black Mambazo) is first on the African Lullaby CD and will quiet him down IMMEDIATELY no matter how unhappy he is. If he is fussy, I just rewind the song several times to keep him entertained while I drive. The only song he doesn't seem to love is the Take 6 tune. It's the first on side 2 of the cassette (for those techno-impaired folks like us) but it doesn't seem to hold his attention like the rest of the album.Overall a fabulous collection that both parents and baby can really enjoy listening to over and over. (And let me emphasize the "over and over" part! ) [BTW, I am now placing my *fifth* gift order for this CD...and have to buy a new one for myself after leaving ours behind in a rental car! Waa say Mama and baby!]

Wonderful!,

This review is from: Lullaby: A Collection (Audio CD)
I bought a number of lullaby CDs to make mix tapes for my mommy-to-be friends, and this CD was by far the best. It includes international lullabies as well as more familiar tunes (in new arrangements), resulting in a rich and deep collection of different musical styles that is both soothing and enjoyable. This is not "toy" music that will eventually insult adult ears after repeated playings -- I don't have kids, but have been listening to it simply because it's good stuff. Don't buy trite, condescending music for your baby -- complex music (like classical music) is better for them anyway. This is an intelligent, sophisticated collection of lullabies that I can't recommend highly enough!

A wonderful CD to share with your child at bedtime,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lullaby: A Collection (Audio CD)
I bought this without knowing anything about it while looking for lullabies for my newborn daughter. It is a great collection of international lullabies that instantly became our favorite. The songs are beautiful and very soothing. The variety of languages and styles really works and all of the artists are great. It doesn't make a bit of difference if you understand the language that the performer uses or not--the love that you feel while rocking your child to sleep comes through in every song. We listened to this almost every night for months at bedtime. Now that my daughter is a toddler, it is great music for "quiet time" or nap time during the day. My gift now to the new babies we know is a kids cassette player and this tape--I love it that much!

it put ME to sleep....,

When our Quiet Time CD mysteriously disappeared from our Kindergarten classroom I went out and picked up this one. It was GREAT! I always screen any materials I bring into the classroom so I put this on one afternoon while I was reading and it made me fall asleep. It has a collection of lullabies from all over the world. The CD begins a little bit upbeat and as it progresses it slows to lull the listener into sleep. My favorite track is "Sweet Lullaby" by Deep Forest. When I brought it to our classroom it quickly became the favorite Quiet Time music. Children who normally tossed and turned through the whole Quiet Time are now taking much-needed naps. This CD has been field-tested and comes highly recommended. Why 5 stars?:

When my daughter was born she was having a hard time falling asleep at night. I bought 6 CD's of lullaby music. This one is my favorite. The music is varied, international, soft and soothing. There is a peace that comes from the music on this CD. I would find myself rocking her even after she had fallen asleep so I could listen to the music with her. It is wonderful. I think every new mom should have a copy!

This is a great collection. Unique, soothing, and addictive. I think our 5-month-old baby's favorite must be Lullaby (Take 6), because she is usually sound asleep before this one ends. I find Spirit Lullaby (Sweet Honey in the Rock) amazing. She was a really fussy newborn who didn't sleep much, but since she was 3 months we lay her in her bed, put this lullaby on, and she smiles and coos until she drifts off. Maturity gets some credit, but I think the music helps too. We interchange other lullaby CD's but this one works best.
UPDATE: Daughter is now 2 1/2 and still falls asleep easily to this CD. I have continued to rotate her lullabies and I even look most forward to this one.

As a musician and music teacher I am extremely hard to impress when it comes to childrens music. I was pleasantly surprised with Lullaby: A Collection. It contains a delightful assortment of multi-cultural songs done in thoughtful, beautiful arrangements that are easy to listen to again and again (and again...) I recognized several classics like "Sakura, Sakura" from Japan and "All the Pretty Little Horses" from the US, others were new but soon became old favorites as my son listened to them night after night as he slipped off to slumber-land. Thanks to Bobby McFerrin for organizing this terrific find!

A Global Lullaby- very nice,

I think I bought this because it had the Bobby McFerrin "Common Thread" version from my favorite lullaby CD, "On A Starry Night". It was just what I wanted- various artists, so I don't get tired of anyone's voice, and lots of variety in the music. There are swedish and african songs as well as "All the Pretty Little Horses". And most important, the music isn't overdone. I can listen to it over and over without wanting to scream- it's just soothing mood music lullabies.
