More About the Author

Muslim wife and mother Mac McGooshie is the author of the new Lulubug's Week in the Life series. Mac's background is in legal, restaurants and all things written. She has lived in many places in her life, but considers her transplanted self at home among the red dirt farms of Southern Virginia and North Carolina's Piedmont. She is thrilled and grateful to Allah to be able to bring a glimpse of the charm of the not-too-far South and the richness of the diverse ethnicities, religions and personalities that the United States and the world have to offer.

Among Mac's favorite things are her daughter and husband, the Quran, coffee on the porch, cloudy winter days, education, Kiki the pussycat and her husband's amazing cooking. Among her modest aspirations for the not-too-distant future are to make the pilgrimage to Mecca and to save the world.

Lulu and the Very Big Meanies is Mac's first book.

"It's like an adventure!" my nine year old son explained why he so eager to finish `Lulu and the Very Big Meanies'. Lulu's story was an enjoyable little journey for me as well. She is a smart, sassy and sunnah-centered kid. Lulu tolerates her puberty-ridden brothers, adores her pizza tossing dad, and handles (likely Islamophobic bullies) with great grace and humor. My family thoroughly enjoyed this story, as well as the fun illustrations and the informative Lulu's Personal Dictionary in the back- thank God Lulu could explain `Stepford Wives' to her young readers, I sure couldn't! Totally looking forward to the next Lulu adventure, insha Allah!

Being a WASP brought up American who married an Egyptian,I can relate to the characters. The story is wholesome, sweet and engaging. Additional,it provides a much needed and accurate view of the lifestyle and values of many American Muslim families.
My daughter and I both enjoyed this book very much.
