Product Description

Designed for locations which may be vacant for a period of time in the winter. Featuring solid state technology with low-power consumption, utilizing LEDs for the flash signal. This red flashing signal will alert a watch person that heat is off and inside temperature is dangerously low. Your watch person should immediately take corrective action necessary to prevent a freeze up of water pipes or harm to plants or pets. When water pipes break- ceilings fall, furniture and carpets stain and walls and floors come apart. \"To be forewarned is to be forearmed\". The advantage is that this temperature warning light is powered with 2 D-cell batteries and does not require 120V house power. A utility failure will not effect Freeze Flash's operation. There is no power drain on the batteries until the unit is flashing and it can flash up to 400 hours continuously. Batteries should be removed when not in use and new D-cell Alakine batteries installed at the beginning of the Winter season. This low temperature warning light has an adjustable thermostat settings from 30F to 70F with a 5 foot cord. This enables the thermostat to be used in the housing or to be positioned out of direct sunlight or drafts that may not indicate true room temperatures. The thermostat acts as a test switch as well as setting for the temperature for the warning light.

We bought this light to place in our New Hampshire home while we were away for the Winter. During a recent cold snap, the furnace failed, but the light worked as intended; we were notified and avoided what could have been a bad situation.

This unit works like a charm. I have a house that's unoccupied near the Canadian border and I must keep it warm to prevent frost damage. One day the furnace was inadvertantly shut off and If it wasn 't for the light I'd be SOL. It's use is simple, just pop in the batteries, set the temp and place it in or near a window. By the way the light is very bright so it is easily observed during the day.

Well, testing it produced the desired results. I am hoping I don't really need to find out if it works when the house temp goes below 45 (or so - another commenter is correct in that you can't precisely set the temperature). I will update this review if that ever happens.

One thing I like about it is that you can select either blinking or steady red light.

It loses a star for value. As far as I can tell, there is really no reason this thing should cost $80 except for that this seems to be the only thing quite like it that I could find on the market.

I read the most recent one-star review and I disagree. I've had this item for about 48 hours and I have tried it out under various conditions. I live in Ohio and it is wintertime. I stuck it outside in 40 degree weather, set for 45 and it went off although it took maybe 15 minutes. When I brought it inside and it warmed up, it did stop flashing. I set it for 35 and put it in the freezer and it took about 10 minutes to start flashing, Took it out and about 5 minutes later it stopped flashing. When came to room temperature, I would turn it up and it would start flashing at about 65 degrees. You can hear the thermostat kick on and off when you adjust it and it seems like, even though it is analog, it measures the temperature correctly to within 5 degrees or so. I'm gonna set it for 45 degrees and put it in the window of my vacation house, which is within eyesight of a willing neighbor. She won't have to come over to the house so often. I trust it, more or less, to work as described. I do have one issue, there is a red button on the side that I have no idea what it is for. The simple instructions don't help. And the thermostat is a little slow, but it does seem reasonably accurate. Overall I think this will prove to be a worthwhile product. My parents used one of the Honeywell freeze alarms but I always felt it was a waste of money. What if the power goes off? If I was you and I was concerned about a vacation place freezing up, and there is a neighbor, I think this is a good bet.

If a neighbor is available to watch house, this is simple protection. This is my 3rd one, used the other two for last three years.
Only reason I did not do 5 stars is it seems to me that the current price is much higher than three years ago. I can't see any reason for this.

Bought this because I was leaving New England for the month of February. I tested a couple of times before I left. At first I thought I was doing something wrong. But it is impossible to determine the setting. I set it at 50 and set my heat at 59 but once the house cooled to 62 the light was already flashing. I understand that it is not an exact setting but I did feel a 12 degree difference made the device unreliable at best. I did not have time to return it because I was leaving the next day. And when I returned I was informed it was too late to return it. So I am out $80 for something I can never use. I suggest buying a thermostat that can be monitored on your cell phone. For a little more money you will have something that actually works.

The first one I got had a defective switch and I got a replacement right away. Works very well and I like that it runs on b batteries for when the power is out. There is a button on the side that is a bit confusing because it is a leftover from a previous model and now has no purpose other than to confuse the user! Very visible and will get your attention especially if it is in the flashing mode.
