Product Description

Designed for locations which may be vacant for a period of time in the winter. Featuring solid state technology with low-power consumption, utilizing LEDs for the flash signal. This red flashing signal will alert a watch person that heat is off and inside temperature is dangerously low. Your watch person should immediately take corrective action necessary to prevent a freeze up of water pipes or harm to plants or pets. When water pipes break- ceilings fall, furniture and carpets stain and walls and floors come apart. "To be forewarned is to be forearmed". The advantage is that this temperature warning light is powered with 2 D-cell batteries and does not require 120V house power. A utility failure will not effect Freeze Warn II's operation. There is no power drain on the batteries until the unit is flashing and it can flash up to 400 hours continuously. Batteries should be removed when not in use and new D-cell Alakine batteries installed at the beginning of the Winter season. This low temperature warning light has an adjustable thermostat settings from 30F to 70F with a 5 foot cord. The length of this thermostat wire can be custom cut for special application. This enables the thermostat to be used in the housing or to be positioned out of direct sunlight or drafts that may not indicate true room temperatures. The thermostat acts as a test switch as well as setting for the temperature for the warning light.

Works well and it’s a great product.

For instance if you maintain the room temperature at 50 degrees then you might want to set this device to alert if the temp drops to 46 or 47 degrees.

The warning light is very strong so my neighbors would easily see it.

Sorry, but In simple words: "It's a piece of junk".

Setting the temperature at which you want the warning light to come on is FAR too imprecise. It’s impossible to accurately set it accurately. The markings on the dial are every 5 degrees – you can’t set it at 46, 47, 48 or 49 degrees. They are also too close together to allow you to ‘eyeball’ settings between the 5 degree increments. In addition, the white dot on the temperature setting knob is too large and too far from the degree markings on the dial – you can’t even set it accurately to the 5 degree marks let alone temps in between.

For instance if you maintain the room temperature at 50 degrees then you might want to set this device to alert if the temp drops to 46 or 47 degrees. Forget it! – you don’t have a prayer. You could easily have it set at 42 or 43 and that leaves only another 9 or 10 degree temp drop before things freeze. Or you could accidentally have it set at 49 or 50 degrees and get alerts too often.

Even if you get lucky and set the warning temperature accurately, in order to test the light you need to move the knob up above 70 degrees. Then you have to guess at setting the knob back to the trigger temperature again.
I’ll concede that if you want to maintain a higher room temp (maybe 60) then you could set a warning temp 10 degrees lower. Then if the actual trigger temp turns out to be a number of degrees below 50 you probably have enough time left before the temp hits 32. But I don’t want to keep an empty space at 60 all winter!
As far as visibility, at night it would be visible from a reasonable distance. However, in daylight I think it would be very hard to see unless you are staring right at it from fairly close.

We bought this light to place in our New Hampshire home while we were away for the Winter. During a recent cold snap, the furnace failed, but the light worked as intended; we were notified and avoided what could have been a bad situation.

This unit works like a charm. I have a house that's unoccupied near the Canadian border and I must keep it warm to prevent frost damage. One day the furnace was inadvertantly shut off and If it wasn 't for the light I'd be SOL. It's use is simple, just pop in the batteries, set the temp and place it in or near a window. By the way the light is very bright so it is easily observed during the day.

I wanted a warning light that my neighbor could see if the temperature in my house dropped below that safe while I was gone for a period. It would not be visable at any distance during the day--but very visable red blinking at night.

If a neighbor is available to watch house, this is simple protection. This is my 3rd one, used the other two for last three years.
Only reason I did not do 5 stars is it seems to me that the current price is much higher than three years ago. I can't see any reason for this.
