Book Description

Lumby January 2, 2008
Tucked into the foothills of the Rockies lies the charming village of Lumby, where quirky but tolerant townsfolk usually make the best of any situation. Not a week goes by without some humorous mayhem occurring under the watchful eyes of the mayor, sheriff, and, of course, the town mascot, Hank, a pink flamingo who thinks he's a bald eagle...

How Lumby has come to host a hot air balloon festival is a long story, but the town's residents are jumping right into preparations. But in the Lumby tradition, it won't all be blue skies and smooth sailing...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

The third installment of Fraser's Lumby series looks in on the Rocky Mountain burg and finds its quirky citizens as busy as ever. In the midst of renovating the inn they've built from a fire-ravaged monastery, Mark and Pam Walker pop over to Saint Cross Abbey to visit the monks who helped them get going. The monks, now nationally acclaimed philanthropists, are struggling to accommodate an influx of seekers—some come for spiritual guidance, others are drawn by the abbey's booming gourmet food business. Across town, Caroline Ross, granddaughter of Lumby's late matriarch, has plans to buy Lumby's deserted train station and transform it into an arts center, but the bustle hits a bump when a high school student, posing as the mayor, secures Lumby's bid to host an annual hot air balloon festival. Lumby prepares to accommodate the scores of hot air–ballooning guests and to learn a thing or two about ballooning. Though this ambling tale takes a while to get off the ground, once the plots start moving, there are plenty of light chuckles to be had.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Uplifting Visit to the Amazing Town of Lumby, January 14, 2008
By
This review is from: Lumby's Bounty (Mass Market Paperback)
I was once again swept away to Lumby, a delightfully quirky town whose residents have deep morals, iron clad values and unstiring faith. The town is reluctantly drawn into hosting a hot air ballon festival; the preparations are hilarious and the outcome, endearing and unforgetable. Meanwhile the monks of Saint Cross are overrun by "seekers" who seem more intersted in free handouts than in spiritual growth. A delightful read that will have you smiling until the very last page, and then some. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Jan Karon, Nicholas Sparks, Macomber and Medlicott and all the other writers who don't have to use blantant sex and violence to weave a great story.

Lumby's Bounty is the 3rd installment from Gail Fraser in the Lumby series. Book #3 does not disappoint. This time the town of Lumby is thrown into a whirlwind when they unexpectedly have to host a Hot Air Balloon Festival. The towns residents rise to the occassion with lots of laughs, new relationships, changing relationships and new directions in life. If you like cozy, small town reads, the town of Lumby is the perfect place to visit.

The Lumby Series are light and enjoyable reading. Predictable and simple, which the author tries to hide behind the quirkiness of the Lumby residents. I do wish she would give up the interviews at the end, which seem to be just "see how clever I am" ego trips.
