Product Description

The SoftBox enlarges and diffuses the light with the flash in the direct flash position. The light is softened and more evenly distributed as it passes through a center-weighted frosted diffuser. The unique design does not block either exposure sensors or auto focus assist beams on most flashes. Application: To achieve a very soft look with reduced shadow definition. For use on an individual flash or to softly illuminate the background in a multiple flash set up.

Description

The Mini SoftBox diffuses light with the flash in the direct flash position. It enlarges the light source 4-5 times the flash head itself. Unobtrusive and low profile, it is ideal for press and other fast moving situations.

The SoftBox diffuses the light with the flash in the direct flash position. The light is softened and more evenly distributed as it passes through a center-weighted, frosted diffuser, enlarging the light source to roughly 10 times the size of the flash head itself. The unique design does not block either exposure sensors or auto focus assist beams on most flashes.

The SoftBox III is roughly twice the size of our original SoftBox, approximately 20 times the size of the flash head itself, thereby producing considerably softer shadows. Like the original SoftBox (LQ-107), the SoftBox III is center weighted.

The SoftBox LTp is designed to fit in the laptop pocket of your camera bag or backpack, it is roughly twice the size of our SoftBox III. The surface area is over 40 times that of the flash itself producing the softest shadows of any LumiQuest SoftBox. The LTp is designed exclusively for off-camera use.

The Soft Screen is a camera mounted flash diffuser that softens the harsh light emitted from digital SLR pop-up flashes. It installs into the hot shoe and has optional Velcro for more secure attachment.

The UltraStrap is the most secure, non-adhesive flash accessory mounting strap available. The patented marriage of neoprene and Velcro loop results in a strap that applies a constant 3 lb. tension to the flash with a non skid surface. The rugged UltraStrap attaches to most flashes in seconds to provide a secure attachment point for all LumiQuest accessories.

I bought one of these last week and used it for an event shoot over the weekend, and I'm very happy with it. It diffuses the light quite well... basically does what it's designed to do.

I bought a Cinch Strap from Lumiquest at the same time, which nicely gets around the issue of sticking velcro strips on the flashgun. While it's not as secure as if the thing were "glued" to the flash, the inside of the strap is rubberized which helps a lot with keeping things in place. It also didn't take long to get a technique down for attaching it.

I have been using this diffuser for 6 months now. This review reflects my experiences.

PROS:
LumiQuest's design is great to ensure that your flash's sensor is able to function properly. The size of this diffuser is a bit larger than most diffusers for camera-mounted flashes, which is typically what you want. I suppose the center weight does it's job well, but I really don't notice a difference in my photos when compared to other similar-sized diffusers.

CONS:
I absolutely REFUSE to place the adhesive velcro on my flash. That means I had to spend $10 to buy the velcro strap. The strap itself works very well, but mounting the diffuser is a hassle. I'm sure the mounting process would be a hassle regardless of how my velcro is attached to the flash unit. The diffuser is an awkward shape and requires 5 separate connections to the velcro. The process of attaching and removing the diffuser is quite tedious and too easy to mess up.

SUMMARY:
The diffuser itself works very well, but the mounting is horrible. If you need speed when attaching and removing your diffuser, this is NOT for you.

Its good item, the only thing i dont like its the way it attaches it self to the flash, you need to stick velcro to your flash, and still a bit loose.

Very well constructed and it works as advertised. I have a love hate relationship with this little SoftBox. It's a pretty good on-camera light modifier, but don't expect it to perform like an off-camera modifier sitting on a light stand. I never had that expectation, I just hope you don't either. It reduces flash output by around 2 stops. That should not pose a problem, but might be good information to know. Yes, I would recommend it to a friend.

It does soften the light from my Canon 420EX flash. And the half-bow-tie design is clever in that it allows the autofocus assist lights to work unobstructed. But in order to attach this accessory to a flash you are supposed to stick 4 pieces of sticky backed velcro on the flash itself. I find this objectionable and it seems that a more

elegant or clever solution could be readily found. For example I took a 14" long piece of velcro used for wrapping network cables and wound it tightly around the top of the flash. This works to some degree but the softbox still slips and slides around a bit and the assembly must be handled delicately.

Thank heavens for all of the product reviews. I love this little thing. It's super easy to use, folds up and takes up little space, and does what it's supposed to do. Like other people who reviewed this product, I wasn't interested in attaching the velcro to my lens so I ordered a velcro strap to hold it into place; until that arrived, I used a rubber band with no issues.

I use my softbox regularly and I'm pleased with the images I'm getting.

Using the Olympus E520, I love the quality of outdoor pictures...however taking indoor pictures with just the pop up flash wasn't cutting it. I purchased the FL-36r flash from Olympus and attached this bad boy - - WOW!!!! Whoever said you need to have several thousand dollars worth of camera equipment to take a quality picture, has never tried shooting indoors with the slave flash and the LumiQuest SoftBox attached.

1 other thing....If you're not willing to attach the hook side of the adhesive to your flash, I recommend purchasing the strap that comes with this item - - albeit NOT worth the $10.00 additional charged, it is nice not to have to stick the "velcro" to the flash that would probably come detached when removing the LumiQuest from the flash.

Attaching the strap to the flash was a breeze with a light rubberized backing which keeps the strap in place on the flash and the soft loop side of the "velcro" on the outside of the strap. The rough hook side of the "velcro" on the LumiQuest simply attaches VERY WELL I might add, to the soft side of the strap...which is why I mention that if you are not careful when removing the SoftBox from your flash with the adhesive velcro, it will come off - - save the headache and hassle, and just spend the money on the strap!

Simple to say - - this was a WISE INVESTMENT!!!

It's a piece of plastic that you fold and attach to stick-on velcro on your flash.

Cons:
- non-rugged plastic, must be handled with care.
- You must buy the additional strap or you will have to stick velcro stickers onto your flash unit.
- The white area is plastic and will yellow over time due to acid from sweat (like your fingers touching it).

Pros:
- It looks amazingly professional (much better than those soggy cloth versions out there)
- Works well to diffuse the light from the flash.

I bought the strap as well, and when it was all done, we're talking like $45 for this plus the strap. That is too much.

LumiQuest: Either lower this product to $24.99, or include the strap for free. It's a great product, that would get 5-stars if it were priced correctly.
