Product Description

Luminaire has become the first choice of many doll artists worldwide. Luminaire is an air dry acrylic that gives a superior transparent appearance that is so critical in producing realistic reborn skin coloring, without the chalky appearance. Luminaire works on any surface which is appropriate for acrylic paint. Luminaire paint is thinned with water giving you easy clean up, and is non-toxic and odor free. The paints are permanent and will not rub off or flake. Best results are achieved when Luminaire is thinned to the appearance and consistency of water color paint. Luminaire paints are thick, which makes them go farther and gives you added value. Because the paint is air-dry, you don't have to worry about the health effects of heating vinyl, and there is no risk of fire. And you never have to worry about ruining an expensive doll in the oven. Luminare paints come to you pre-mixed with all the needed ingredients in the paint. We use high quality artist grade pigments, binders, polymers and other ingredients in our paint. You wont have extra expense for gels and other mediums and no need for special thinner. Painting with Luminaire paints is easy, and you can generally apply additional coats of paint after 20 minutes of dry time. Luminaire is specially blended so that shine isn't a problem.

I started with Bloomers & Bows Air Dry Paints,I LOVED THEM, and when they were no longer available, I bought Luminaire air dry paints. I have been using them for years. (I think I am one of the first to buy them)I like them a lot,Bloomers & Bows were better, but I have found them to be easier to use then a lot of other air dry paints.I guess I just needed to get use to them.

To make sure paints stick to my kits I wash the kits well with soapy water and rinse well,if the kit is a very smooth kit, or if it looks like it may have oils on it, I will wipe it down with rubbing alcohol to remove any oils that may keep the paints from sticking.( I also do this if I am painting with Genesis heat set paints) and I always ware gloves when painting or handling kit/ pieces as the oils from my hands can case the paint to not stick.

I do have to use many many thin layers of flesh color or I'll have a chalky looking baby, and I do add a little white to the light flesh to get a lighter looking baby. But with the berry color and other colors I found I need to use more,so I guess it's just what you find works better for you. I do like these paints. I do not use water to thin with, I use the Luminaire paint thinner,I personally found it to to work better with the paints.
After I am finished painting, and after I let it dry for 48 hours,I add Luminaire shine reduction sealer. I use 2 sponge wedges,1 to dab a very little layer of the Luminair shine reduction sealer, and the other to dab till it is dry. After this drys for 24 hrs, I root my baby head. Then after I put baby all together I dab another light Layer of the shine reduction all over baby's face, legs, arms, feet, and hands. I let baby dry for another 24 hrs. then I diaper and cloth my babies.Hope this helps someone who may want to try air dry paints.

I bought this product a while back, and it continues to amaze me at how superior the quality and results are regarding reborning and other crafts. It takes very little, and you use water to thin and clean up! Luminaire allowed me to continue making my dolls after my doctor told me the "Odorless Thinner" I was using with the heat set paints was causing me horrible allergies and migraine headaches, and I would have to give it up to avoid being sick all the time . Luckily, I heard through the grapevine that this product was out there, so I searched on Google, found it right away, and have been using it since. I use this paint very sparingly, with even better results than the other. No funky burned smells, no risk of ruining your doll in a hot oven, no headaches, and best of all, you will get more natural, realistic results. I've painted several dolls with this kit, replacing only a couple of colors that I use quite a bit. The fashion doll kit is perfect for the vintage dolls and the flesh colors are amazing.
I won't use anything else now, and my only regret is not finding it first.....before spending so much on those heat set paints. I do love my Luminaire paints!! Several of my reborning buddies use nothing else but Luminaire tii, and love the way their dolls are turning out! BEAUTIFUL!!! These paints are the best I have ever used!! I highly recommend these for realistic reborning or restoring vintage dolls as well.

I'm new to the hobby of reborn dolls and was somewhat hesitant about getting started, but I found these paints to be easy to use, odor free and was happy with my completed projects.

I opted to use air dry paints for Reborning instead of the Genesis Heat Paints. These work GREAT!! There are no fumes and are very easy to clean up. Best of all, I don't have to use my oven. I'm very satisfied with the doll I created.
You have to use a lot of layers when applying flesh tones, but if you don't mind painting and enjoy making Reborn Dolls...you won't mind. Best of all, it dries very fast. I felt this was a good advantage. I will always purchase these paints!

Yes, the paints were super easy to use. However, I found the results less than satisfactory. I bought these as opposed to purchasing heat-set paints to do "reborn" vinyl dolls. When I received the paints, the instructions stated to apply sealer first. I did this and the doll just got shinier and shinier. The 2nd try, I did not apply the sealer first. However, the paint did not stick well, rubbing off easily even after it dried for several days. Even after applying a couple coats of the spray-on sealer from the same company, the paint could still be scraped off easily. The third doll turned out somewhat better as the kit was a different type of vinyl. However, once again, after applying THREE coats of Luminaire's spray-on sealer, if I take my fingernail, I can still scrape the paint right off. The product description states it will not scrape off, but it did on ALL three dolls. Yes, I waited the 72 hours after painting to apply the sealer. Yes, I pounced it until dry. I even waited days between the coats. (And the doll sat around here for weeks until I gave it away and the paint still easily scraped off). I am leery of how well the paint will hold up long term even if just displayed and not handled. Therefore, I cannot in good conscience sell the dolls. The product description states there is no shine, but yet there was shine on all 3 dolls, with or without sealer. The description also states that the product is a good alternative to heat set paints to avoid "harmful effects of heating vinyl" which I assumed meant no fumes, etc. I didn't want to strip the dolls due to strong fumes with those types of agents - I have asthma and my 7 year old son has asthma. I was hoping for a good alternative to heat-set paints as I do not feel comfortable heating the vinyl parts. However, this product is one I will not use again.
