5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Glasses!!
I can't say enough good things about these glasses. I love the size and shape of them and have owned the mixed sizes (21 oz and 14 oz) for over 20 years. They are thick, heavy and sturdy....practically indestructible. They also have a wide bottom which makes them extremely difficult to knock over and spill. Finally, they have an extra large capacity (21 oz) which means...

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Glasses!!, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Luminarc Working Glass 21 oz w/Red Lid, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
I can't say enough good things about these glasses. I love the size and shape of them and have owned the mixed sizes (21 oz and 14 oz) for over 20 years. They are thick, heavy and sturdy....practically indestructible. They also have a wide bottom which makes them extremely difficult to knock over and spill. Finally, they have an extra large capacity (21 oz) which means fewer trips required for refills.

I like to keep a large glass of water (complete with lots of ice) near me all the time since I drink it frequently. This is the only glass I've found that I like for that purpose. The largest size I've been able to find from other manufacturers is a puny (by comparison) 16 oz capacity for their large glasses and only about 10-12 oz (or less) capacity for their smaller or "juice" glasses. By comparison, the smaller, juice size version of these "Working Glasses" (listed elsewhere on Amazon) is a designated 14 oz but you can actually get 15 oz of liquid in them and still be below the rim. That makes the small size "Working Glass" almost as large as most other manufacturers' LARGE size.

After scouring the drink-ware market looking for additional ones for the past few years (including reviewing other manufacturers' catalogs looking for similar ones), I have found nothing even close to them in quality, capacity and utility on the market. I was thrilled to find them still available here on Amazon but I would add one caveat or warning.

My older sets all have "Luminarc" and "500" stamped on the bottoms of the glasses but these newer ones have nothing marked on the bottoms. For that reason, I've been unable to determine whether they are really manufactured by Luminarc (they still may very well be) or are copies made by someone else.

Other than the lack of labeling on the bottom, these are identical to my older glasses in all other respects (size, shape, weight, feel, etc) however. I simply don't know yet if they will have the same durability and resistance to scratches as my older ones (I guess only time will tell). That lack of certainty about the manufacturer is the *ONLY* reason I have given a rating of 4 stars instead of 5 for this item.

Update: After doing some investigation with customer service and other sources, I discovered that the glasses I received were manufactured in the USA by Arc International, which is Luminarc's parent company. Based upon that, I raised my review from 4 to 5 stars.

I first received these glasses for my wedding 15 years ago. They have lasted and lasted and lasted. Finally I decided I needed to order some replacements. I was excited to see them here on Amazon, because my brick and morter search had been fruitless.

Imagine my disappointment when within a week of getting these glasses they began to chip around the edges. And, I don't mean little chips, I mean huge hunks out of the lip. I don't know whether I got a bad run from the factory or not. I'm really hesitant to order anymore, for fear the even newer ones will chip too. As far as I can tell I'm the only reviewer that has had this problem. I'm very sad to give such a negative review, because in the past I have loved these glasses

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Luminarc Working Glasses!!, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Luminarc Working Glass 21 oz w/Red Lid, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
These glasses are the best! This is my 3rd set! They are crafted very strong and the lids are very secure and do not loose their shape. I use these glasses to give out many treats, and get many compliments. Comparing glass to plastic storage, these glasses are a hit in my opinion!

Glass does not carry odors and is so easy to clean - it doesn't stain like plastic!

I decided to start replacing my plastic containers with glass equivalents. This is a good substitute for the ubiquitous "soup" container.

I've always owned these glass. Large and small. They don't slip from hands with the rounded lip. Uber convenient storage!! And we all should know glass is best for storage. Thick too, never break!

Sturdy, big, big size -- and lids when I use them for storage in the fridge for celery and carrot snacks, etc. I needed a few more for iced tea, and, of course, found them on AMAZON !!! Great price, superfast delivery. What more could I want?

5.0 out of 5 stars fine large glass, July 20, 2009

The 21 oz. glass is stylish looking and great for tall summer drinks, with a lot of ice. We have had glasses like these for years, and we replace any that get broken because we just don't want to be without them.

I have several sets of several sizes of these and love them. In fact, I am thinking of ordering more of the larger and medium size glasses since I use them alllllll the time.

I love this glass, and so I was willing to pay the price. But it is a rather expensive item.
