I don't like this film... :),
By M. Jeffreys "www.mjeffreys.com" (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)

I don't like Sean Mulvihill's "Living Luminaries" movie... I love it!! Why? Because the movie is so well put together that you literally experience the peace and oneness the different spiritual teachers talk about while you are watching the film. In other words, as the film goes along your mind quiets down, and so you not only learn about enlightenment, but get an actual experience of it!
In my opinion, they could not have chosen a better actor to play the role of the seeker. Sean has a presence all his own that is low key, yet undeniably there. Thus, rather than try to dominate each scene, he simply asks the kinds of questions most seekers have, and then gets out of the way and lets those being interviewed answer without interruption. Another bonus is the photography/locations chosen to film the scenes which are just beautiful. Another nice feature of the movie is that you get to hear from more than dozen different teachers, so you get to hear perspectives on life that you may never have considered before. While many of those interviewed are well known within the spiritual community, Eckhart Tolle is this reviewers favorite (no surprise, since I run an Eckhart Tolle Meetup in Santa Monica, CA). Getting to see Eckhart sitting on a park bench while holding hands with his girlfriend Kim is a real treat as he shares his famous "Power of Now" teachings with Sean. While "The Secret" may be more well known, to me "Living Luminaries" is hands-down the better film. This is because instead of focusing on how to "get things," this film focuses on something much more important: seeing your true nature. A Fine Film,
By
This review is from: Living Luminaries (DVD)
This is a fine film about "the serious business of happiness." It is, essentially, a film about spirituality and an opportunity for luminaries from various walks of life to share their spiritual wisdom and insights to help uplift humanity. What sets this film apart from others of a similar bent is the people who are featured in it. In addition to the well-known names such as Eckhart Tolle, Marianne Williamson, and Don Miguel Ruiz, we meet Nachum Schifren--the surfing Rabbi, Geronimo (Pratt) Ji Jaga--a man who spent twenty-seven years in jail for a crime he didn't commit, Reverend Robert Schuller (the Crystal Cathedral), the Venerable Tibetan Lama Chodok Gyatso Nubpa, and many others who bring varied perspectives to the common theme of self-realization and spiritual development.
Rather than just a series of talking heads, the film has some wonderful creative elements that give it interest and variety. There is a loose storyline about a young man who is searching for happiness (the film is subtitled "The Awakening of Sean Mulvihill") and it is through his journey that we meet these various spiritual "experts." I have one criticism that in an effort to create this "plot," I thought the film was a bit choppy visually and a little clunky, particularly in the beginning. Fortunately, this is a minimal design element distraction in what is overall a film worth watching over and again. (A nice touch to bring in Swami Beyondananda to bridge segments of the film and as a little comic relief.)

An Incredible Movie!,
By
This review is from: Living Luminaries (DVD)
'Living Luminaries' (On The Serious Business of Happiness), details a young man's journey as he seeks to discover true happiness from extraordinary luminaries. We are treated to Marianne Williamson's brilliant and compassionate insights, Don Miguel Ruiz's mystical vision, and Eckhart Tolle's wisdom of the power of now.
One of the most charismatic of the luminaries that we meet is the extraordinary Dr. Michael Beckwith, who is the force behind the Agape Spiritual Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Beckwith leapt out of "The Secret" into the national consciousness and many of us remember his extraordinary appearances with Oprah. In "Living Luminaries," Dr Beckwith shares his unique blend of insights, humanity, humor, and vision. Dr Beckwith recently published his book and companion DVD, "Spiritual Liberation" (Fulfilling Your Soul's Potential) The great gift of "Living Luminaries" is that we feel so empowered at the end of the film because it shows us that we can truly find, embrace, and retain whatever definition we have for happiness. The film actually illuminates a pathway down which we can travel to discover the essence of our own personal joy. When a film accomplishes that, it transcends the art form itself. If you enjoyed "The Secret", I think that you will find that "Living Luminaries" is the next step in the discovery of who we can be when we open to the magic of the beauty of our humanity.Michael Bernard Beckwith: Spiritual Liberation - Fulfilling Your Soul's Potential
