5.0 out of 5 stars excellent for intermediate astrologers

3.0 out of 5 stars I wish this book was more comprehensive
I bought Liz Greene's other books on Saturn (a new look at an old devil) and Neptune (the astrological neptune...) and found them both to be so comprehensive...detailed background mythology as well as contemporary references, plus detailed information on positions, aspects, the whole works...I couldn't put them down and they helped me to understand the influences of these...

when you've gotten past Linda Goodman's Sun Signs and are looking for something to take you to a broader understanding of astrology, this is the book to get. not really for beginners as it assumes knowledge of some very basic concepts (beginners should look to the aforementioned title and Parker's Astrology). an excellent overview of the jungian astrology so currently in vogue, it shows how the sun and moon placements in charts correspond to parental images. special emphasis on mythology and symbolism as the sun placement is interpreted as indicative of the hero's journey. but readers looking for a "geminis get along with other air signs and with leos and aries" type book should look elsewhere. no pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Authors to Remember!, April 20, 2003
This review is from: The Luminaries: The Psychology of the Sun and Moon in the Horoscope (Seminars in Psychological Astrology) (Paperback)
Liz Greene and Howard Sasportas are both wonderful authors/lecturers. This is another book in a series on Jungian Astrology that I've found very helpful. If you're ready to explore deeper waters in this field this is a book you'll ceretainly enjoy. Many basic students make the mistake of assuming that they know about the Sun and the Moon. Read this and then think about that question. I've been teaching astrology since 1978 and have frequently recommended their books to students. Well worth it!

astrology books i have ever read, not just psychological astrology.
it gives deep insight into meaning of moon and sun, both as representative of consciousness and insctinct / body / emotions and of archetype of "mother" and "father" in a birth chart.
it is difficult to read at times, especially when it comes to interpreting example chart - you really need to have your basics in chart interpretation + composites, transits and aspects nailed down in order to get everything.
but if you are reading this book, as i did, for the purpose of learning about yourself, you will be just fine as long as you understand nature of signs, houses and planets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Intermediate Astro-psychology Students, February 22, 2007
This review is from: The Luminaries: The Psychology of the Sun and Moon in the Horoscope (Seminars in Psychological Astrology) (Paperback)
This book is an outstanding contribution to Astro-psychology.

My first introduction to "real" astrology was about 15 years ago. Fifteen years ago I was very sceptical about astrology, and then I received my first introduction to pyschological astrology. In 1930, a guy named Dane Ruhdar studied astrology and Jungian psychology, and psychlogical astrology was born. It is much more powerful than "Sunday paper astrology". Liz and Howard are two of Dane's more accomplished "students".

Astro-psychology is not for light weight study. It takes years of study to "get it". And this is not the first book to start learning astro-psychology. I would consider getting an indepth understanding of the the zodiac signs, the 12 houses, the 8 planets of our solar system, the sun, and the moon, before reading this book. Maritha Pottenger has a good intro book on those topics. Howard has a good book on the 12 houses. But once one has learned the basics, this book is an excellent way to learn the deeper meaning represented by the Sun and the Moon in a chart.

3.0 out of 5 stars I wish this book was more comprehensive, August 6, 2011

I bought Liz Greene's other books on Saturn (a new look at an old devil) and Neptune (the astrological neptune...) and found them both to be so comprehensive...detailed background mythology as well as contemporary references, plus detailed information on positions, aspects, the whole works...I couldn't put them down and they helped me to understand the influences of these planets. I was really hoping this book would do the same but I guess I should have known that wouldn't be the case since it is in the Seminars format. Every time it came to something I really wanted to know they said...well, you all already know all about that so we don't need to go into detail...yes, please! That's why I bought the book. I got some helpful information out of it but not what I was hoping for.

As with all of Liz Greene's books, I cannot recommend highly enough; find her in depth knowledge of great assistance for the interpretation of charts. The fact that the dark side of our individual leanings assists in a broader picture & adds to the flavour of other corresponding aspects.
It helps me to understand myself better & my reactions.
