Only one unique feature,
By
This review is from: Luminox Men's 3005 Original Navy SEAL Dive Watch (Watch)
I've owned this watch for 5 years and the one outstanding feature, the illumination, is truly outstanding. The borosilicate glass capsule/tritium technology is slick and is very bright. Mine has faded minimally over time.
But otherwise, this is just an ordinary watch. Downsides include a nonrecessed crystal that has become significantly scratched, poor comfort and function of one band (two bands are included with the watch and the velcro one works well) and a second hand that aligns poorly with the markings on the watch face. The last feature seems poorly compatible with any notion of build quality or precision. As a side note I'm not sure that the "Navy Seals" aspect of this watch is anything but marketing. The few Navy Seals I've talked to don't use this watch. They all used G-Shocks (another watch I like).

Not as bad a watch as some reviews say.,

I figured it would be just a watch to wear seeing as a buddy of mine gave it to me because he bought the F-117 Luminox watch. Most of the reviews (especially for the black faced watch) really rag on it and totally discredit the watch and company as a whole. I've had the watch since 2002, lets not take into account that it was bought and worn before it came into my possession, and the battery ran out....2 months ago. The original battery. The only problems I've ever had with this watch were the pins for the watch. One broke as I raked my hiking backpack across it by accident. Dissapointing yes, but I don't mind paying Target or Wal-Mart $8 or so to give me brand new pins. The customer service IS pretty horrid, send it in they say and we'll let you know the price...yeah, not too impressive. For those that complain about the watch band breaking, I suggest go to Target or Wal-Mart to buy a cheap new one. It doesn't have to be a Luminox band. I've bought two cheap bands, one I bought simply because the first I bought was too stiff. So what?!? Also a good watch band is the ZULU 4 ring or the NATO nylon straps. Point being, I don't see what all the griping is about, I've known several people with this exact brand watch (some have the different color faces) and none have ever had a problem. Yes, the casio g-shock is what most of the military wears, my cousin is in the Army and that's what he uses. So, use it as a good casual watch, camping watch, or traveling watch.

I am a watch-a-holic and own several watches. This is by far my favorite watch. When I first opened the case and picked up the watch I thought it was a cheap dollar store watch because it was so light. After examining it and wearing it I realized the quality of this watch. It is very light, durable, comfortable and easy to read in the dark. It looks great as well. Highly recomend this watch. I will definitely buy another Luminox.

Purchased the 3005 yellow face model five years ago because of it's big dial, rugged look and waterproof features since I'm a boater. BEWARE "IT'S NOT AN EVERY DAY WATCH"...I've finally learned that after the last four years as I had to send this watch in for repair four times...the wrist band only lasts ONE YEAR they crack and break (Recommend ordering an extra at time of ordering) don't care what anybody says the CRYSTAL IN VERY SOFT...SCRATCHES VERY, VERY EASY and they will crack on impact (Band broke..watch fell to floor resulting in a crack...another TIMES was on a minor hit). Repair cost extremely high since they have to replace various parts when they open the watch...average yearly repair cost $145 not good!!! I've put the watch up in storage and only use it when I plan to be on/in the water!!!!!

It's a plastic quartz watch,

Okay, so you decide to spend the day at the beach and you find you need some new flip-flops. You head to the drugstore on the way and there you find two racks of flops -- one has Hong Kong-made for 99 cents a pair and the other has Swiss-made flops for $30.00 a pair. The Swiss ones have a glow-in-the-dark toe strap, but otherwise there is no visible difference between the two types of flip-flops. But, well, everybody knows Swiss stuff is just naturally better made and that justifies the higher cost, right?
After several months of owning the Luminox Navy Seals yellow dial(3005) watch, $157, I kinda feel like the guy who bought the $30 flip-flops to get the Swiss label and the glowing toe strap. I'm not sure that, for my purposes, a $45 Timex with Indiglo night lite wouldn't do the job just as well. I would certainly put the Luminox up against my Invicta Swiss quartz diver with steel case and bracelet, screw-on stainless steel case back screw-down crown, good night-time lume, 200 meter water resistance and Submariner-style dial($88 on sale at Amazon two years ago). Don't get me wrong. The Luminox seems to be everything it claims to be (I haven't been down 200 meters but it does fine in the shower. The crown does not screw down and the plastic caseback is held on by four small machine screws. Again, cheap-looking construction). So this is a military-looking plastic Swiss quartz watch with atomic glowing hands and markers, a decent rubber strap (the strap on mine is not quite wide enough to fill the entire space between the lugs on the watch head, which seems cheap). I have no way of knowing if this Luminox will long outlast the Timex and the Invicta. But I'm feeling like that guy who bought the $30 Swiss flip-flops and had buyer's remorse later, afraid he fell for a big load of hype.

Navy Seals: What more could you ask for?,

I purchased this product recently from Tourneau in NYC, the product looks great. The yellow dial is very vivid, and is a nice contrast to the black band and casing. This is a military watch, with a very distinct look, unique to Luminox. At night the watch lights up with its luminous dashes, that allow for great visibility.

Twice as bright as S&W watch,

This review is from: Luminox Men's 3005 Original Navy SEAL Dive Watch (Watch)
I originally bought a S&W tritium watch and quickly broke the crystal (I'm hard on crystals). The S&W has a steel case and the Luminox has a plastic case, so I thought the S&W might be more sturdy.
I then got a blue faced SEAL Luminox and I love it. The illumination is at least twice as bright as the S&W. I haven't even been able to scratch the crystal.

I've always wanted one of the Luminox watches and now I have it. The best part is it came a week before the originally indicated arrival date. I love it when my expectations are exceeded. A seller can't go wrong doing this.
As for how it works, well it simply works as advertised and what more could you expect. You certainly are never in a place where you can't tell the time no matter how dark the room. I even got two compliments on the watch the first week I wore it.

I bought this watch about four weeks ago and so far so good. It is light weight but seems very durable. I have knocked around the watch a few times and keep expecting to see a scratch or scuff on the face, but it looks as it did the first day I pulled it from the box. It is very easy to see the time at night, this is without doubt the best feature.
The watch has got compliments and I still find myself admiring the looks. The only reason I would not rate this a five is due to the very expensive battery replacement as well as a replacement watch band that runs upwards of $35. So far so good.
