This review is from: Luminox Men's 3051 EVO Navy SEAL Colormark Watch (Watch)
I own several TAGs, Breitlings, Omega, Citizen, Torgoen, and Tissot. This is my first Luminox, and I bought it mainly for the novelty of the Tritium illumination vials - everyone should have at least one H3 watch in their collection. All markings are *very* high contrast white. The tritium 5-minute marker vials are BLUE, the second hand marker vial is BLUE, with GREEN vials on the hour/minute hands, a GREEN vial on the 12 hour marker and a small GREEN bezel marker. The tritium illumination isn't as bright as perhaps some marketing material and pictures would make it out to be - however it is very good and certainly does the job in low light or darkness. The watch is large which is my preference, about the same size as a TAG Formula One Grande. The bezel turns in one direction, and has a nice, solid ratchet feel. The numbers on the bezel are in fact countersunk/engraved, not just painted on the top surface of the bezel - so it would seem to be difficult to 'wipe or rub off' the paint as some have suggested. The watch case, case back, and bezel are made from a polycarbonate & carbon composite material. This makes the watch light, but some may think it feels cheap. However these materials are very strong, and give the watch a low magnetic signature - important if you are working near explosives/mines (EOD) or navigating with a handheld compass. It probably makes the trip through airport metal detectors a little easier too :-) The case back has a large engraved Special Warfare insignia (aka Navy SEAL Trident, aka "The Budweiser"). The case back is secured to the case by 4 screws. The crown seems to be plastic or perhaps composite, and it does not screw down. If the crown was a screw down, eventually users would strip the plastic screw threads. So this crown pushes in and pulls out. This could be a concern for preventing moisture entering the watch, however Luminox rates the watch good to a 200M depth. Be sure your crown is pushed in well before you take to water or even wash your hands. The band is a typical Polyurethane strap that seems well made and offers plenty of adjustment for wrists large or small. Be careful though - I have seen these types of straps be destroyed by some bug sprays/bug lotions. The north strap has a Luminox logo molded in. The buckle is stainless steel, has a stamped Luminox logo, and has double tangs of stainless steel. Once concern is that the strap is 23mm. This will make finding replacement straps difficult, as 23mm is not a popular size for watch straps. The AMAZON ID for the replacement strap is B001BQNWBQ or B001MV2J7S. The mineral crystal is very clear, but it sure would be nice (and more expensive) if the watch had the harder sapphire crystal. This is a nice knockaround watch, made better if you catch it on sale. I paid $157 direct from Amazon.

Have been, and still am, a big fan of Casio G Shock line of watches, but have always longed for one of the Luminox watches. After seeing the EVO Colormark line, I could resist no longer. Watch is large, but it is light in weight. If you are accustomed to the weight and size of Casio G Shock watches, this watch will not be anything that requires you to adjust to. The band is substantial yet flexible. The luminous quality of the dial and hands wins outright compared to the light activated paint of the G Shocks and others. Numbers on watch face and bezel are highly conrasting and easily read. A quick glance is all that is needed to tell what time it is. I may have watches with more bells and whistles or flashier dress watches, but this one combines ruggedness, funtionality and simplicity with aesthetics. It's my favorite out of all my watches.

Order this watch August 11 2010 it stopped working in Oct. I wish I would have ordered a different one. Now I am stuck with trying to get it fixed. Save your money and order a better watch.

Rugged, nightlight,
This review is from: Luminox Men's 3051 EVO Navy SEAL Colormark Watch (Watch)
I bought this as my new daily. I have not been disappointed. Very nice rugged, good looks. I have the 3051 which is White on Black, making the hand extremely legible during the day and a quick glances. The tritium viles do a good job of being visable as light sources become scarce. In total darkness its a gem, distinguished by a orange 12 o'clock marker and green minute/hour/second hands. It also has a green marker on the bezel at "0".Albeit being very light and a comfortable wear I am always aware it is on my arm. The crystal is not very well protected but the bezel does add plenty protection from side impacts. The rubberized band that comes with it eventually molds to the wearer. I will swap it for a Zulu strap, although I am in no hurry to do so. The good but not great about the watch. The crown is not screw down which seems odd to me with a watch this capable. From what info I could find on the internet I believed I was going to get colored hands. Blue and Green to be exact. Maybe I have an older model but for the price I couldn't justify the "gimick". The poly/plastic maybe tough, I will find out with continued wear, but it does look like... plastic. I am completley satisfied with my purchase at the price. I may have prefered another color and may add another down the road. The watch is damn good. With that said. This watch truely shine when the lights go out. Buy One.

Don't buy!,

After one year, the stem started leaking and let moisture in and then the hands fell off. It was going to cost over $100 for Luminox to repair (would not cover under warranty).

Call Me Crazy!!,
This review is from: Luminox Men's 3051 EVO Navy SEAL Colormark Watch (Watch)
I have owned three of this model watch (paid for two). I love the look and feel of this watch. It is extremely lightweight and the watch APPEARS to be well made. I ordered the first watch as I was leaving for Iraq. It arrived and I thought it was the watch of my dreams. Three days later the second hand fell off! I ordered from discount watches and they sent me a replacement in no time at all, great customer service. Turnaround time to Iraq 2 weeks or less. I wore the replacement for about 8 months until I returned home and went to adjust the time. The little twisty thing on the side wouldn't budge, then it came off and wouldn't go back in at all. I got mad and smashed it into a million pieces. I think I was so angry because I loved the watch that much. If this watch breaks I'll post another review calling the watch a total POS but for now I'm foolishly optimistic.

There is a medicine I need to take every so many hours. Lately, I kept forgetting so I wanted a watch with a bezel to remind me of when I last took it. I did ALOT of research on sport watches before I picked one. I went with this model over the 3001 because there were so many more positive reviews for it. The only "NAVY SEAL" stuff is on the back in the form of their very cool symbol, not like other generations which said it on the face. Don't get me wrong I have nothing but respect for those men, I would just feel like a tool to wear something that advertises that group and not be one myself. The body is plastic, but it is plastic the way a GLOCK is plastic. I had a friend who wore a 3001 until the tritium wore out, so I'm convinced they are good. This model has better contrast between the face and numbers. I have banged the watch against sinks, counters, my nightstand etc. and no scratches. Bezel works fine, keeps time well. All in all pleased. Tritium is bright and clear in darkness or even dim light. I replaced the band, due to not wanting thick rubber on my wrist. If you will too, do yourself a favor and get a 22mm NATO band. This watch is subdued enough that I wore it with my suit to an interview but also wear it around and do not intend to every "baby" it. Try one on in a store first because this model takes up more arm real estate than other watches I've owned.

Since I only weigh 146lbs. I was planning to buy the smaller model. But I ended up buying this larger one because I think it looks a little better. The other more expensive Luminox models have better features and look better, but they do cost a lot more. This watch is a lot lighter and feels way stronger than I expected. The self powered illumination works great at night, it's perfect. But it's not overly bright so don't worry it doesn't look like some glow in the dark toy! If you're looking for a nice simple and durable watch, I fully recommend this watch. Or if you want to spend more money try any of the higher end Luminox watches.

I'm a fireman. I need a watch that will perform under the WORST possible conditions you can imagine and still function. This watch is self-illuminating, has large readable numbers, and will function in all conditions. This is actually the 2nd one I bought. The first was commandeered by my son, a computer techie/hacker/gamer. He thought "It was cool". Nuff' said.
