The Lumiscope 1085M blood-pressure monitor helps you take charge of your own health by making the measurement process a breeze. The internal pump inflates automatically to a level customized for your individual blood pressure. The D-bar style cuff makes it easy to get a good fit when you're taking your own blood pressure and have only one hand free--just attach to your left upper arm, pull down and cinch tight. (The cuff fits arms from 8.7 to 12.6 inches in circumference.). Small sensors in the cuff feel the pulse in your arm and calculate blood pressure and pulse rate for you, with the readout displayed in large, easily legible numbers and quick-read symbols on the digital display. The monitor runs on 4 AA batteries and shuts off automatically after a few minutes without use. Like most other electronic blood-pressure monitors, the Lumiscope 1085M gives a slightly less accurate measurement than a doctor's manual model; slight movements or incorrect cuff placement or arm positioning can also throw off a reading. On the other hand, there's no need to squeeze a bulb or listen to heart sounds through a stethoscope. This is the only monitor that I have owned that lasted more thatn five years. Unfortunately, I now need another. I switched to a more expensive brand that was worthless, because it wouldn't give any kind of reading you could believe. I'm buying another Lumiscope.

I found the Lumiscope 1085M easy to use and pretty accurate. It was only 1 or 2 digits off of the readings I received at my doctors office. The directions were easy to follow, and it has a long battery life. I would reccomend it to others.

One of the reviewers below complained about the finish. I suspect that he simply neglected to peel off the protective plastic film from the face of the instrument. I bought my unit 5 months ago & it is still going strong on the original batteries with multiple daily uses & the finish remains perfect. I've checked its accuracy against the machines in my doctor's office & its readings are always within a couple of points. The display is big & easy to read. It takes up almost no space in a suitcase or backpack. I'm buying another one as a birthday gift for a friend.
