4.0 out of 5 stars Dependable
This is the only monitor that I have owned that lasted more thatn five years. Unfortunately, I now need another. I switched to a more expensive brand that was worthless, because it wouldn't give any kind of reading you could believe. I'm buying another Lumiscope.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too picky
While the thing works, it's very particular about placement of the cuff--get it too high or too low or turn it a little too far in either direction and it doesn't get a reading. This morning I had to adjust the cuff position 3 times before it finally gave me a reading--by that time any reading it gave on that arm would be questionable anyway--it's more hassle than a...

I found the Lumiscope 1085M easy to use and pretty accurate. It was only 1 or 2 digits off of the readings I received at my doctors office. The directions were easy to follow, and it has a long battery life. I would reccomend it to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!, November 10, 2004

One of the reviewers below complained about the finish. I suspect that he simply neglected to peel off the protective plastic film from the face of the instrument. I bought my unit 5 months ago & it is still going strong on the original batteries with multiple daily uses & the finish remains perfect. I've checked its accuracy against the machines in my doctor's office & its readings are always within a couple of points. The display is big & easy to read. It takes up almost no space in a suitcase or backpack. I'm buying another one as a birthday gift for a friend.

This morning I had to adjust the cuff position 3 times before it finally gave me a reading--by that time any reading it gave on that arm would be questionable anyway--it's more hassle than a device using a manual stethoscope would be. I'm looking for a replacement that works better.

OTOH, its durable--I've had it for three years now and it still works as well (or poorly) as it ever did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great blood pressure monitor... but...., November 5, 2004
This review is from: Lumiscope Auto Inflate Blood Pressure Monitor 1085MC (Office Product)
This blood pressure monitor is great -- it provides very accurate readings. That is probably due the fact you place this one on your upper arm -- the ones that you use on your wrist are very inaccurate. This one does the job well. I bought it using a coupon from UnderTag.com, so it was almost free for me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Small, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Lumiscope Auto Inflate Blood Pressure Monitor 1085MC (Office Product)
Fortunately, my ex- wife, who suffers from hypertension can use this product. I cannot. The cuff adjusts from 8.66 to 12.6 in. I am not obese but my upper arm measures 15.5 in. relaxed. I am not out any money because she can use it but specs should show min. and max adjustability.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad quality and finish, November 8, 2004
This review is from: Lumiscope Auto Inflate Blood Pressure Monitor 1085MC (Office Product)
I received this Blood pressure monitor today i.e, Nov 8th, 2004. I ordered it because there was $10 MIR and it said that it was used on the international space station.
But when I opened the package, the monitor's finish is so bad. The blue paint finish is not uniform and the LCD cover's finish is dull. In short it looked either used or badly made. Considering Amazon's reputation, I wouldn't think it was used as the base of the unit was fine.
So my conclusion is that Lumiscope has no proper Quality Assurance checks. So much for something that is being used by NASA.

I tried to return it to Amazon claiming the reason was product quality was not upto my expectation and they are asking me to pay for shipping. Have sent them an email explaining the situation as I cannot find any phone number at all to reach them. I hope to get a response and return this and get an Omron monitor.

UPDATE Nov 15, 2004 :: Unlike some other reviewer that thought I neglected to remove the plastic film covering the display, I would like to clarify that mine never came with any such film. Amazon shipped me another unit that I received today and that has a worse finish than the first one. As I am tired to making trips to the UPS place to return it again, I will keep it. I don't know if it is a bad lot or what, but if this happens twice, then I suspect the quality control of this product.
