This is not a high-end Ukulele for the most scrutinizing aficiando who would think nothing about spending a 'grand' on a Martin, etc., but this ukulele is an overly-fantastic deal on what most people want a ukulele for. Pleasant strumming, camping & fireside get-togethers, beach, serenading, whatever.

Pure & Simple Enjoyment:
I also own a Luna Pineapple Tattoo Soprano (my first good one after making the mistake of buying a cheap-o.) The intonation, care and craftsmanship that goes into these ukuleles are by talented luthiers that take pride in producing a very musical and playable ukulele that stays in tune (once you stretch the strings to a stable state) and plays remarkably well in all registers/positions on the neck without any annoying dissonance. I was amazed at the difference between playing a "beginner Ukulele" and a well-made quality one. The cheap ones do not inspire you to play, sound horribly out of tune all over the neck, and hard to tune and slip out of tune even after the usually semi-tightening the tuning key screws on the reverse so they will hold the peg a little tighter. (Don't over-tighten these machine head screws, they need to be firm to hold but not "hard" to turn. This is common and should be 'checked' with every new ukulele.) Is the intonation absolutely perfect, no, but it is so slightly off on just one or two strings all the way up at the octave that only experienced ears could distinguish it, and face it, EVERYBODY loves a ukulele sing-a-long and really cares less about any virtuoso technique at the beach, right? :-)

The electronics actually blew me away!
I was expecting a cheap POS as an 'added frill' but the small built-in preamp and pickup system works more than remarkably well to be included in a ukulele of this caliber and price.

I normally wouldn't review something a day or so after having it because who's to say what the durability will be, but after trying multiple ukuleles at Sam Ash and knowing at some point I'll want to record some stuff using Garageband I decided to go with the electric. Sounds warm and smooth. Are there some nicer ones out there? Of course, but for around $120 (with soft gig bag @ Sam Ash) you really can't find a better deal. If you're just starting not looking for an electric then go with the LU-21c for around $80-100. I went with the concert size as I like having a little more range and room. Haven't plugged in yet, but that's what is so nice about it is that when you are just sitting around the house you can enjoy this great uke anywhere. It'll definitely join me on our cruise next year. There is a really nice Kala travel acoustic for around $175 that I would have gotten had I not wanted the pre-amp electric. I played a beautiful Ibanez, but had a buzzing going on caused by the pre-amp which was disappointing, but saved me about $80. Really nice though. I can definitely recommend this Luna, but I'll always say to go to the music store and try a bunch out and just see what sounds and feels right. I spent about 3 hours the last two days just deciding what I liked. Good decisions require patience.

Another review for the acoustic version of this instrument. It seems well worth the price to me. I've had no problems with buzzing or a dull "C" string mentioned in other reviews.

I'm a middle aged musical hobbyist somewhat proficient at guitar, violin, mandolin, and baritone ukulele (among other instruments). This is the first product that I've been so pleased with that I've bothered to write a review. The playability and intonation are excellent. The resonance and richness of the tone are amazing for the size and price point (this is a ukulele, after all). Even my mother-in-law commented that it had a sweet tone. And the unique tattoo design was enough to convince my wife to let me add yet another instrument to my growing stock pile.

One last point. I bought this instrument to play during a beach vacation in Florida. Crazy humidity and temperature variations going from the beach to the ice locker air conditioned resort, as you might imagine. Yet it stayed incredibly in tune.

Verified Purchase
My daughter had a cheap starter, and wanted an upgrade. Since she put the time in and still likes to play, I was ready to upgrade her. She wanted an acoustic/electric so she could do more things with the instrument. This product fit the bill perfectly.

Other acoustic/electric ukes are dinged in the ratings because they play very softly as an acoustic. Not the Luna. Very full sound as an acoustic. Plug it into an amp, and the controls give you even more flexibility to tune the sound.

Highly recommended. Happy Daughter = Happy Daddy.

Hello, newbie uke player here who went crazy buying 9 ukes in one month - this was one of the firsts - I was excited when it came looking beautiful & it seemed to play well to me & stayed in tune better than some of others, however, now that I'm more schooled regarding ukes - I definately can hear the buzz that other reviewers are talking about - therefore, this uke has dropped down a notch or two in my excitment factor - for the money I still say it is a very good buy, but I bought another (abiet more expensive) concert to take its place
