Luna moths (Actius luna) are one of the most beautiful North American moths. These pale green moths grow to be five inches wide and six inches long. Lunas have an eyespot on each wing, long curving tails on their hindwings, and males have large bushy antennae.Although luna moths are common in eastern deciduous hardwood forests from Canada to northern Mexico, their night flying habits and short one week adult life span make them a rare sight. Adult lunas have no mouths and eat nothing. They emerge from their cocoons in Spring and early Summer solely to mate and lay eggs. This is a silver and enamel pin.
