Avoiding the "sophomore slump"˙,

This is the second album from Rosana, an amazingly talented musician and songwriter. For those unfamiliar with her, I highly recommend her first album, "Lunas Rotas" before getting this one. That said, she continues her poetry on this album with some phenomenal songs, but this is not the type of album you want to listen to from beginning to end, as was her first. The best songs are "Ya No Siento", "Dunas de Poemas", "Sonrie", "Si Yo Fuera Tu Amante" y "Navidad", a Caribbean-style Christmas carol not actually listed on the album. The remaining songs tend to venture into unknown territory for Rosana, and it loses a lot in the attempt. Nonetheless, she will continue to strike a cord with her haunting lyrics that seem so human, yet so eloquent. In short, I recommend this album, but with the understanding that the first is far superior. Let's hope for a third album soon that will surpass these first two!

Almost as good as Lunas Rotas,

After reading the reviews, I doubted at first about buying this CD, but when I bought it and began to listen to it carefully I found excellent songs. Rosana explores new rythms here and does it successfully, I think. Sonríe, with African influence; Pa Calor, which is a cha-cha-cha; El dia que se hizo tarde, a ranchera that is also beautifully sung by Maria Dolores Pradera. And of course we have Contigo, my favorite, which I consider as beautiful as Si tú no estás. I think this CD needs more careful listening, but it is worth to have it.

you can't compare Rosana's current work with her previous. artists who take risks and explore different approach to music are much more daring people than those who are stagnant. her second album is just as refreshing as the first, only different. i actually like it even more....

I recently spent 3 months studying Spanish in Madrid. The first week I was in Madrid I kept seeing posters for Rosana (the 3rd CD). After listening to her newest CD I bought the earlier ones as well. Lunas Nuevas is incredible. I actually like it better than Lunas Rotas. Another reviewer commented about one song sounding like it came off an old scratchy album...well I am not sure but it sounded to me like it was more for effect than anything else. Rosana is not so old that she would have been recording for vinyl. You cannot go wrong with this CD (or any of her CDs for that matter).

Luna nueva or the voice of women,

When I say Rosana's album as a feminist one, I'm not talking about radical feminism but rather about the most beautiful expression of femininity in a simple, subtle way. Rosana's Luna Nueva is fresh and natural both in music and lyrics and Rosana's voice is the best of Spanish music today. I especially love "Fuego Lento" and "Amairani."

More sparkling music from a wonderful singer/songwriter,

I fell in love with Rosana's singing via the "Curdled" movie soundtrack which, among the Columbian Cumbia music, included two of Rosana's songs from her 1996 "Lunas Rotas" CD. I think Luna Nueva is an equally strong recording; a bit more slickly produced, but I enjoy the way she stretches a bit vocally on this record. Rosana has THE most wonderful voice! She'd sound great in any language but sounds best en Espanol - and most of these songs have "hit" written all over them! If you like catchy, melodic latino music, she's your gal!

Rosana's first was much better,

I have both Rosana's Cd's and think that her second , lunas nuevas was a far cry from her Lunas Rotas. The music and even the title of her second Cd suggests a lack of thought. sorry, but I am very disappointed in this Cd

De mujeres y lunas,
This review is from: Luna Nueva (Audio CD)
Su primera luna, Lunas Rotas, fue mejor, pero su segundo álbum trae una variedad que muestra el compromiso de esta artista con recrearse a sí misma. Hay que apoyar artistas como Rosana, de voz exquisita y visión amplia.

Lunas Rotas was her best,

Although Rosana is indeed a gifted artist, I felt let down by this production. Rosana is Spanish and should perhaps stay within her realm. Her attempt at musica latina left me very frustrated and bored. I wait for another album and hope that this time she remembers her first album.
