5.0 out of 5 stars Most talented singer in the Spanish language today, December 19, 1999

This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
This is likely the best album to have come out of Spanish popular music in a long time. I discovered this album while living in Spain, where Rosana is INCREDIBLY popular, and she's seen as one of the few Spanish singers out now with any true musical ability. From the beginning to the end of this album, her music and lyrics are pure poetry. She began as a lyricist and back-up musician for other Latin singers, but now that she has branched out on her own, she has made a name for herself. This is the first of two albums, and much more honest and pure, from-the-heart music than her slicker second album. If you understand Spanish, some of the songs will haunt your memory, while if you are learning Spanish or don't yet know any, this album will give you the incentive to learn- truly a masterpiece from an amazing talent!

While living in Spain I fell upon Lunas Rotas. I'm not much of a music fan but Rosana's Lunas Rotas has something that causes me to listen to it over and over. It doesn't matter if you understand Spanish or not, I promise this CD will not disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compratelo!!, December 30, 1998
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
While living in Cordoba, Spain for 2 years, I had the opportunity to see Rosana in concert, being familiar only with "El Talisman". What a show! I ran out and bought "Lunas Rotas" the next day. The songs are catchy and very upbeat. Her beautiful voice really shows in the ballads on the CD. "Si tu no estas aqui" is my favorite--the words are VERY VERY romantic!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Try it - you won't want to put it down, July 18, 1999

This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
Like another reviewer, this is one of two CDs that I give to special people (the other is "Forbidden Songs of the Dying West" by Jackie Leven). Rosana's voice is beautiful. The uptempo numbers blow away the blues like nothing else I know and the slower ones make you melt inside even if you don't understand any spanish. Here, language is not important - it's the soul that counts and this album is full of it!! Never lend your copy of this record to anyone - you might just not get it back!

When I heard Rosana's voice for the first time I thought she was Spanish although her accent was so mild. Later I was glad to read (here in Amazon) that Rosana was from the Canary Islands, where my parents are from as well. Rosana's voice is soooo amazingly beautiful. Particularly in the song "Si tu no estas aqui" you can appreciate the sheer beauty of her voice in full and in detail. I am not a professional musician but I am used to pay a lot of attention to voices as I have sung in a choir for a long time (as a baritone). For Rosana I would have the same comment someone once had for Caruso, she "sings so beautifully that it even hurts". Apart from the beauty of her voice there stands the beauty of her songs, both elements together really multiply the quality and expressiveness of her work and of herself as an artist, she is really breathtaking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, Hard to Get any Better..., January 13, 2002
By
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
From beginning to end, one after the other, you'll listen to a great voice singing great songs. In Rosana's sound, you can hear lots of Spain: guitars, melody, rhythm, romance, energy.
All tracks are built for tireless listening; my highlights are
- "El Talisman", irresistible Gipsy power
- "No se' manana", the sad end of a romance
- "Lunas Rotas", also romantic and soft
- "Sin miedo", fast blending of Pop and Flamenco
- "Descubriendote", ultimately romantic.

In 1996, Rosana took a soft, traditional Spanish sounds and tool it to new heights; after that, she slightly changed her formula and until today she could not repeat herself.

A "no-skip" album, I've listened to it dozens of times. By the way, you'll appreciate it even if you do not speak Spanish, as melodies speak loud, universal volumes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't get enough of this CD, May 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
I got on to Rosana from amazon.com's tips on who else had bought Enrique or Shakira, or maybe both. I'd never heard of her but decided to give it a try. As so many other reviewers have said, "Si tú no estás aquí" was the song that first grabbed me and I wanted to listen to it constantly, but now I've moved on to "No sé mañana". Does she ever convey the pain of discovery in this song. She has such a great abiblity to transmit feeling through her music that I've given copies of this to friends who know no Spanish, and they, too, fall in love with it. I'm just about to buy my 6th, I think, copy to give to a Spanish friend now living in the States to give her a taste of her homeland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD. Relaxing, danceable, different. Classy., March 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in Spain, after hearing it played on my wife's cousin's stereo, at the family beach house in Asturias. I was drowsing in the sun, and only half-listening, and was entranced. Even half-asleep, I remembered it well enough to ask the next day who the arist was, and immediatly bought the CD. I should have waited, because it is about half as much money here at AMAZON than in El Corte Ingles. Live and learn. Rosana was, from the first listen, one of my favorites, and I bought Lunas Nuevas, only because I figured that any artist who could produce Lunas Rotas was good enough that I would surely like her next album, too. I do. What can I say? A class act, with overtones of the blues, salsa, and other influences (even a little Mecano, every now and then, though Rosana might not like that comparison, however complimentarily it is intended). You won't go wrong with Lunas Rotas in your collection or for a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars The latest sensitive contribution to folk music in Spain, May 27, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
ROSANA, an artist from volcanic Lanzarote (Canary Islands) has gifted us with a highly sensitive CD versing on love, nature, hope, betrayal, myths...Her humanity comes across even with more strength on tour. As a fan I am anxiously awaiting her next album. Even if you don't understand Spanish, I am sure you will be able to grasp the true meaning of her lyrics, hear the sound of the Atlantic Ocean breaking on the beaches of her homeland ... her unique voice reaches deep within.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sparkling, catchy and passionate music, November 24, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Lunas Rotas (Audio CD)
I discovered two songs from Rosana's "Lunas Rotas" from the "Curdled" movie soundtrack. I had a little trouble tracking down her CD, but it was certainly worth the hunt. "Lunas Rotas" is a damn catchy record, highlighted by Rosana Arbelo's fluid, passionate voice. I've listened to it so much that I can sing along in Spanish -- even though (aside from a few phrases) I have no idea what I'm singing. It's THAT catchy.
