This is the album to buy if you want GOOD QUALITY Spooky Kids sound! Period. Every song is great. It really shows how Manson evolved in his music...from this to Golden Age of Grotesque, evolved is the only word that fits. I can only complain about the DVD. It claims to have "raw" footage, but it is very obvious that the video itself is the only raw part, while the audio is obviously the studio track being dubbed over the video. Forgivable, though, because the songs on the CD are so good. BUY THIS ALBUM

Call me crazy but I like this rough, early material a lot better than what Manson has been doing the last few years. After losing key members of the band, the song writing has become less powerful and more pop-ish. Daisy Berkowitz is an amazing guitarist as evidenced on the Portrait album as well as this cd. The songs fall somewhere between moody goth, industrial flavored electro-punk, and funk. Even as early as their first demos it's plain to see that they were on to something. The Spooky Kids were so incredibly different from any other band of that time. The songs were funny, surreal, creepy and ugly sounding. Now I'm hoping that the rest of the demos will get released officially, with the same audio treatment, especially some of the songs that were remade on later albums. Cash in? Maybe, but like I said, this is good stuff. Especially for those who are sick of MM's highly produced, pop-core sound of late. In that case, I really don't care who's cashing in.

Daisy has finally released the old demos,

Ah, the old days of South Florida, the early years of the band that would infect the mainstream like a bad rash. This chronicles the early days of the band Marilyn Manson before they got big. These songs have been around in crude form on the internet for some years now, I'm glad Daisy finally restored them to listenable quality. I would only recommend this for die-hard fans or people who want to know what Marilyn manson sounded like before hooking up with Trent Reznor and Nothing Records. There are a few cool pics on the DVD too. You see the makings of a future superstar with this. This album should have been released under the name MARILYN MANSON and the Spooky Kids but I guess for legal reasons they couldn't. I think it would have attracted more people that way. True fans know about the Spooky Kids though. Many fans of Manson's more melodic work from Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood wouldn't like this much, with maybe the exception of the song Negative 3. The CD rocks on some moments but falls flat in others. It's excusable though. They were just starting out. You could see what Marilyn Manson was going to become in this early recordings. I think it's a good album for the most part. The DVD is pretty cool too. Crappy camerawork but thats the kitsch value of it.

Apparently manson stopped the release of this, but thankfully a bunch got out. They have a import of this but it's not the same label and it's probably just some out of country label trying to make a buck of it.
Get the original while you can. See how things were a little bit different and more of a twisted childs kinda image then the spooky goth man that manson later turned into.

When i bought this album, i only bought it to complete my collection of Manson cds, but once i listened to it, i couldnt stop. This is the best collection of old manson songs i have ever heard. Unfortunetly, the DVD doesnt have very much good footage, it looks like bootleg footage filmed in a club. The lighting sucks and the film itself is very shakey, but the musics good.
1.Red (In My) Head-8/10 Good opener, very catchy 2.Dune Buggy- 6/10 Another catchy tune but it gets annoying after a few times lisnin to it 3.Insect Pins- 7/10 slower song, kinda creepy, but kinda upbeat at the same time 4.Learning to Swim- 10/10 this is one of my two favorites on the album, starts out slow and get fast, great song, but weird lyrics "I wanna be the fish"? 5.Negative 3- 10/10 the best song on the album, has a mezmorizing tune, awesome song 6.Meat for a Queen- 7/10 Faster song, pretty cool, i like the video for it 7.White Knuckles- 8/10 This one sounds alot like Red in my head, but its still ok 8.Scardey Cat- 9/10 Grwat song, it sounds like "Doll-Dagga Buzz Buzz Ziggety Zag" without guitars 9.Thingmaker- 7/10 Upbeat, great song, beginning is a little creepy 10.Thrift- 6/10 this one is ok i guess If you only like manson for his heavier stuff, dont buy this album, this is only for harcore manson fans.

Excellent collection of demos. Almost all of these songs can be found on the old demo tapes but the quality has improved. I'd recommend this CD for anyone into heavy metal because that's what the band was before all of the publicity stunts. Manson had eyebrows when this came out.

I'm thinking the main reason a lot of manson fans didn't much like this album was because of the different sound altogether. I loved it, and I happen to be listening to it as I write this. It's the sort of music that grows on you, when I first got it my first thought was 'what is this?' because I was expecting the regular sound of Marilyn Manson as he has been throughout Portrait, ACS, and Holywood. Then I listened more and grew attached to it, rather than basing my opinion on the other music. I love them, and it's probably a 50/50 chance that you will, too if you are a hardcore manson fan.

I love this cd, the sound quality is awesome. I have been an avid fan of the spooky kids and early manson for some years now and I have prevously had to order spooky kids demos from a company in italy.(which sounded terrible compared to this re-mastered version.) I, for one was extatic when I heard about this comming out. Although it seems to be a last shot for cashing in for Dasy, Manson's done it quite a bit himself anyway, so I am really glad he did it and I'll be waiting for vol.2. It is a GREAT buy for manson fans who are more into the earlier/original/good sounding stuff they put out.
