Lynette Fleming (Sprang) was born in 1951 in the very small town of Kenton, Ohio. Her diverse family history on her maternal side includes Revolutonary War patriot, John George Focht, who served as an indentured servant before sailing from Austria to America in 1774. His descendants were colonial pioneers who moved from Pennsylvania into Ohio before it became a state, two of whom were killed by Indians. Her paternal side can be traced back to the philosopher, professor of Swiss history and poet, Johann Jacob Spreng, born in the early 1700's in the historic region of Tyrol in Austria. Her later ancestors were farmers, ministers, teachers and business owners in Ohio and Indiana.
Lynette graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Illinois School of Business in 1979, where she met her current husband, James, at that time a veterinary student. After graduating, both settled in Decatur, Illinois, where Lynette works as a hospital recruiter and James is a sole-practitioner, small animal veterinarian. They have two children . . . a 25-year-old daughter, a gifted equestrian who was selected to compete in the Junior Olympics at the age of 16, and a 16-year-old son who is a kicker and punter for his football team.
Lynette and a friend decided to team up for a healthy lunch and are sharing their idea in the book, Lunch Buddies: Buddy Up for a Better Diet. According to Arlene Mannlein of the Decatur Herald and Review, it is a book "like no other . . . a bit of a diary, a bit of a history book and a lot of fun, with a thread of humor woven throughout the book." While the idea to buddy up for a better diet centers on the idea of each bringing a healthy dish to share, the book is really for everyone. Delicious recipes can be enjoyed at any meal, and if you're looking for a good source of information about antioxidants, this book should be on your shelf.
According to Jelly Jad'on, founder of www.BasilandSpice.com, "It's not just what you eat, but who you eat lunch with that affects your weight and health. Two ordinary women (not actresses nor models), Lynette Fleming and Susan Dudra, have written a very enticing book about the brown bag movement toward better nutrition that is literally sweeping the country. The authors, employees of a hospital, understand what it's like to have co-workers who just won't stop bringing in tempting homemade brownies. Fleming and Dudra, married to "regular" husbands, also can relate to women whose spouses aren't ready to give up the standard American diet."
Although not physicians or well-known dietitians, the authors offer a new idea for the average American worker . . . to buddy up for a "healthy brown bag lunch." As stated by Kelly, "Lunch Buddies is really a wonderful book for those who wish to make a healthy difference in their own lives. ... Take the first step, find a friend who'd like to begin to make a nutritional change, and begin to work together. Join the brown bag movement, like pioneers Lynette Fleming and Susan Dudra, and lunch on toward a better life."
