I like the size, it is perfect for older kids or adults to put soup in or basically any food that will fit in this nice 16 oz. container.

When I first saw it, I was concerned if the big lid would be hard for young hands to open: it's not.

This looked so promising and I am so disappointed. It looks great, great quality, closes well (compared to the Rounds containers), but there is a tiny hole underneath, in the blue plastic part. This ruins everything as water get trapped underneath, between the stainless bottom and the plastic, when you wash it. I tried everything: washing by hand, on the side in the top rack of the dishwasher. There is still water going in there. Then it takes days to dry. You can shake it after 2 days, and there is still drops of water coming out... The water drained in my kitchen cupboard, in my son's lunchbox, wetting his other stuff. It's not usable.
Customer service at LunchBots explained that the hole is needed to "allow for expansion of the stainless steel due to temperature changes".

We took your feedback to heart and changed the design of the bottom of the container in 2013.

We sealed the hole in the bottom of the container and the water retention no longer occurs.
(note - a hole is still there, but it is sealed from the inside). All product sold on Amazon as of 2014 has this modification and will no longer allow water in.

Please contact our customer support team at info@lunchbots.com and we will gladly help - we keep our customers happy.

I like to bring home-cooked food in to work, and I don't like dealing with microwaving in the office kitchen. This seemed like a great solution. It turned out to be kind of a "meh" solution.

It's got some good points: It's sturdy and it keeps a seal very well (too well -- see below). The bowl shape is convenient -- though it's not really bowl-shaped (no curved bottom); it's more cylinder-shaped. And it does hold a decent amount of food -- 16 oz capacity is generally sufficient, though if your food is irregularly shaped, like chicken cutlets, you may find it's not quite spacious enough.

But I was disappointed in several aspects of this item. First, even though I follow the instructions, my blazing hot food is lukewarm by noon. (The instructions are to warm the container with boiling water for several minutes before putting food in, and put the food in while it's still piping hot.) I have been bringing in solid food like chicken cutlets and sausages -- it's possible that if my food were liquid, or if it didn't allow for so much air in the container, it would stay hotter. Still, what's the point of a thermos if it doesn't keep your food hot for a few hours?

Also, the heat generated when you pack this with food appears to create a very powerful suction. That's nice from the "won't spill" aspect, but no so nice from the "won't open" aspect. I have had to do serious battle with this thermos in order to open it, even when I made an effort not to overtighten it. It's kind of embarrassing to be spotted at the office writhing around, trying to twist open your food container. Hilarious lunch antics like these would fit in at Dunder-Mifflin, but they're out of place where I work.

We've been using 3 of these for almost 5 months. We have a ton of lunch containers from various companies, including the kids' Thermos containers. I was looking for something that I could send to school for the kids to have cereal that wouldn't make a big mess. It's too hard to eat cereal from the tiny Thermos mouth. My plan was to put milk in this container and have them add the cereal at school when it was time to eat. I pre-chilled the container with ice water and added the milk. My kids reported the milk was still cold at lunch time. They said they were easy to eat from. The problem was that the lids are just a bit too big for their hands (ages 5 and 7) so the containers didn't get closed all the way when they were done, so the lunch bags were messy when they got home. Their hands will grow, so this is a temporary problem. We've since used them for hot foods as well, primed with hot water. My kids said the Mac and cheese, rice and chicken I've sent for them (at different times) were warm at lunch time. My sense is that they don't keep things quite as warm as Thermos containers but I haven't verified that.

We've been hand washing them and haven't had any of the issues with water getting trapped that others have reported. The wide mouth makes them very easy to clean.

Pro:
- wide mouth = easy to eat from, easy to clean
- does a decent job of keeping hot foods warm and cold things cold
- Lunchbots customer service is fabulous

Con:
- lids are a little bit too big for small hands - have kids ask a teacher for help
- thermal properties not quite as good as Thermos

I am using this container for my son for past year. He carries his lunch to school in this container and it keeps the lunch decently warm. I would give it 4 stars that way. But there is a big hygiene concern. Inside of the lid has the rubber ring to keep the container air tight. That area is super hard to clean. I have tried to take out that rubber ring to clean many times but it its hard to get it out since its tucked underneath the steel part of the lid.
Today I was set to take it out and tried a lot with many items, including a knief. Finally I had to cut it out to get it out. See the attached photos of the horrible state on the inside of the ring and underneath it. Its full of black yucky mold. The water gets trapped in there and mold accumulates. BAD design. what a HEALTH HAZARD! I wonder this design was even approved.
Now ring is out and I cleaned the area beneath it. I am going to use the container without the ring. Which means its not air tight anymore. Let see if it still keeps the food warm.
