I did contact lunchbots and they have indicated they will send a replacement.

If you only tighten it to the marks on the container as suggested to avoid the suction of not being able to open it?

Still, what's the point of a thermos if it doesn't keep your food hot for a few hours?

I like to bring home-cooked food in to work, and I don't like dealing with microwaving in the office kitchen. This seemed like a great solution. It turned out to be kind of a "meh" solution.

It's got some good points: It's sturdy and it keeps a seal very well (too well -- see below). The bowl shape is convenient -- though it's not really bowl-shaped (no curved bottom); it's more cylinder-shaped. And it does hold a decent amount of food -- 16 oz capacity is generally sufficient, though if your food is irregularly shaped, like chicken cutlets, you may find it's not quite spacious enough.

But I was disappointed in several aspects of this item. First, even though I follow the instructions, my blazing hot food is lukewarm by noon. (The instructions are to warm the container with boiling water for several minutes before putting food in, and put the food in while it's still piping hot.) I have been bringing in solid food like chicken cutlets and sausages -- it's possible that if my food were liquid, or if it didn't allow for so much air in the container, it would stay hotter. Still, what's the point of a thermos if it doesn't keep your food hot for a few hours?

Also, the heat generated when you pack this with food appears to create a very powerful suction. That's nice from the "won't spill" aspect, but no so nice from the "won't open" aspect. I have had to do serious battle with this thermos in order to open it, even when I made an effort not to overtighten it. It's kind of embarrassing to be spotted at the office writhing around, trying to twist open your food container. Hilarious lunch antics like these would fit in at Dunder-Mifflin, but they're out of place where I work.

My first grader has been asking for more variety in his school lunches. His favorite meals are mac & cheese and soup. Room temperature mac-cheese just wasn't working. But now we have our thermal: hot lunches whenever he wants!

The wide opening means the Thermal is a real bowl -- unlike anything else I've seen. It's so easy to eat right out of it. When I first saw it, I was concerned if the big lid would be hard for young hands to open: it's not. My son presses down and twists (like the motion used to open prescription bottles).

I would have gone with this product even if it meant hand washing (and so many thermal containers require). This one works perfectly in the dishwasher! What could be easier?

We bought it for school lunches...but we've been using it for adult lunches too. The 16 ounce size is big enough for Daddy-sized portions. I can tell it won't be long before we'll be getting some more of these. Great to have the color choices...

I have been looking for a thermos that did not have plastic touching the food AND is like a bowl so my son can eat from it without pouring into something else...LunchBots to the rescue!

I have to say, I was concerned when I saw how wide the lid was...I loved that it meant the opening was wide enough to eat from, but worried that my son would not be able to open it by himself. Not to worry; my son can open it easily, even when I put piping hot fried rice in there.

I did follow the instructions and poured boiling water in for a few minutes. My son just will not eat leftovers if they are room temperature. He loved his lunch and we have even used it for little mini tacos. Lunch making just got a whole lot easier at my house.

I got a blue one for myself and put leftover taco salad in it the night before and left it in the fridge. Next morning I took it to work and accidentally left my bag near (not right in front of) the portable heater in my office. I thought I would be looking at some seriously yucky salad, but it was actually still cool! I couldn't believe it!

These are really sturdy and well made. I love the two I bought and will get a couple more for holiday gifts.

We've been using this several times a week for a month. I was so excited to see this thermos. I have long sent soup lunches to school with my kids, but eating out of a narrow mouth thermos was a pain and sending a soup bowl along with a thermos was a pain too. Even though the reviews on other colors of this container talked about the seal not always working, I decided to try it. It works great as long as you don't put an actual liquid in it. For leftovers, casseroles, pasta, anything thick, it works great. For soup or hot water, it leaks. If you only tighten it to the marks on the container as suggested to avoid the suction of not being able to open it? Well it's not really closed. Beware tightening it too much, or they'll need an adult (or 2) to get it opened. I emailed them and they said I must have a defective container and they suggested I call their customer service. But I already paid a lot of money for this and to have to pay to get it back to them, when it never worked from day one? Don't buy it for soup. I'm back to using a thermos container and sending the bowl. I haven't had a problem with things not being warm enough; I preheat it with boiling water at least 5 minutes with the lid on before adding hot food.
