Its true, BPA is increasingly perceived as a health risk. By using metal, this manufacturer gets a built-in free "pass" on this problem.

Ovearll the manufacturer has done a great job. The quality is good. So I'm not going to harp on that.

Here is the point. These might be a bit of a culture shock for some people. I can't even make these into pros and cons, because to some people, they will be cons. And to some people, they will be pros. It all depends on where your head is at!

1) It is possible to damage these. If your toddler THROWS these DOWN onto a slate floor some small and negligible damage may occur. They may dent. They may scratch. After some use these look "careworn". You may not "prefer" how these look after 6 months. Certainly, I think they ARE better than plastic! But you must realize they are shiny polished metal. And metal is, as they say, malleable. To me, this is great, you can even use it when you are camping and not worry about accidentally melting it or something.
2) They are VERY SIMPLE. You can't get a lot of detail out of the metal. After 4 kids I'm tired of seeing the "character of the year" on everything I can buy. I'm ready for simple. I'm ready for "real". But to some, this simplicity might seem dull.
3) The mug and bowl may sweat profusely if/when you put a cool/cold beverage or food in it. It does for me. I live in a humid place, so this happens. I suspect it would be less likely to happen in Arizona. Your situation may vary. This does not happen so much with plastic cups. It may surprise you at first. You may find yourself having to use a coaster on the bowl to keep from getting your table wet. What can I say. It is what it is.
4) Metal transmits heat (hot and cold) very effectively.

... which means they are LOUD. They are called LunchBots (is that a Transformers reference?) but they don't transform or fold out or have hinges or anything. They are plain, basic, *sturdy* stainless steel eating utensils. At first they are all shiny and pretty, but unlike plastic stainless has to be wiped down or you get fingerprints and water spots and other smudges that make it look dirty five minutes after you washed it. I am looking at mine now and wish I had towel dried them instead of leaving the air to do the job.

I do like the carefully rounded off edges. There is no way to cut yourself on these. The rims of the cups, bowls and the edges of the plates are folded over (it looks like "twice") to ensure there is ZERO chance of your kid slicing a finger. This is a small thing, but it really shows the dedication to quality "LunchBots" has committed to in making these.

"Healthier than plastic, safer than glass." That is the slogan in the package. Well, yeah, you don't get the permanent staining or taste/smell saturation you do with some plastics. You can safely store chili, spaghetti, or pretty much anything (fish) and not be stuck forever with a smelly/discolored bowl. BUT unlike plastic these are subject to denting and they are loud. If you have kids, imagine them banging stainless steel cups and plates. This can get annoying very quickly.

But they are fun. I feel like I am camping when I use these--until I leave them in the sun (metal gets VERY hot in the sun--mmmm newsflash there...)

So, the verdict? Well, they are well made and stylish in a minimalistic way. There is just something about them that makes mealtime fun. They feel like camping but are elegant enough (in a classic "simple" way) that you don't feel like you are really roughing it.

It's certainly a pleasure to get something new that is so clearly a well-made product. Here we have a set of child's dishes: A plate, a bowl, and a cup, all of very nicely-surfaced stainless steel and *no* sharp edges. The service is of a heavy enough gauge that it's never going to dent under normal use.

My three year-old grandson probably *will* figure out some way to dent this set but it absoloutely won't hurt it. In fact, it now additionally serves as a musical percussion play set because I've added two wooden spoons.

The third great thing about the set is that it's incredibly easy to wash (all smooth with no nooks and crannies to harbor bits of food), and thus it's *very* sanitary for a child to use. Assuming that the pieces don't get lost over the years, there's no reason that this set of stainless steel dishes won't be around thirty years from now for my grandson's kids. That's the ultimate beauty of stainless steel: it never goes out of style.

If you're a grandparent or if you have friends with young children, this would be a great gift idea. Highly recommended.

THESE ARE AMAZING! At the correctional preschool where I work, we have had numerous problems with toddler fights, where broken dishes have been the primary weapons. These stainless steel dishes change everything! Now, the toddlers cannot break any of the items to get those sharp edges for naptime fights. Although these dishes are very solid and can be used as blunt trauma weapons, a single adult attendant can easily stop fights and collect dishes with a simple electromagnet (sometimes with the naughty toddlers still attached!).

OK, in all seriousness, I have 4 kids. They are ages 2-6 and they break everything we got for them: Corelle, Ikea, and even melamine/plastic dishes. Nothing could survive them till these. $100 is a lot to spend on 4 dish sets but they have been so worth it. We already spent more than that on all the dishes they've broken anyway. And now that my oldest two have started begging to wash dishes, I'm extra glad I got these. I won't have to worry about them breaking any more dishes.

I cannot recommend these enough!
