Book Description

August 1, 2001
For a child, there's always something exciting about opening a packed lunch-a sense of expectation, hope and mystery. Will the contents be exciting? Tasty? Provide the necessary energy for the upcoming afternoon? Packing a nutritious lunch that your child will enjoy can often prove challenging, especially if you're looking for ideas other than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. The Lunchbox Book is packed with interesting and healthy lunch ideas for children of all ages, from a toddler going off to daycare or a third-grader headed off to school. Included are recipes for sandwiches such as triple decker brown & white sandwiches, pita bread sandwiches, tortilla sandwiches; also offered are creative salads such as alphabet letter salad and chunky finger salad; "extras" include drumsticks, muffins and dips & dunkers; and finally, lots of fun-filled desserts such as raspberry mousse or chocolate kiss cookies. In addition to pages of creative, healthy food ideas, the authors-both moms and food experts-have included tips on packing a lunchbox successfully and on food safety. Lunchbox meals don't have to be boring. All you need is a little forward thought and planning. After all, a good balance of food at lunch will help energize your child right through the afternoon bell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Lunches., May 14, 2007

This review is from: Lunchbox Book (Paperback)
This is a really handy lunch book. It is more geared towards children, but uses a lot of recipes with more sophisticated items like chickpeas, or red currant jelly. I will probably used 3/4 of the recipes in this book, and that rarely happens.

I do have one complaint. The layout is horrible. Traditionally, a book is read facing horizontally at you. This book is requires you to turn the book vertically to read a recipe. This can be quite annoying.

Overall, this is a great book.
