Review

Chosen 1/7 Books For Traders. "This is a step-by-step guide on how to build wealth on your lunch hour." -- Techincal Analysis of Stocks & Commodities April, 2005

He is definitely not trying to proclaim a "get-rich-quick" approach but develop a long-lasting strategy for consistent growth stock investments. -- John L. Hoh, Jr. Senior Editor BookIdeas.com, July 2005

From the Inside Flap

Introduction:

Historically, the stock market has been a safe and stable investment tool, with relatively few blips on the screen. With the notable exceptions of the market crashes of 1929 and 1987, for the greater part of the 20th century, conservative and moderate level investors could feel relatively safe parking their money in blue chip stocks, mutual funds, and index funds, being reasonably assured that their investment portfolios would steadily increase in value for many years to come. The sentiment on Wall Street encouraged buying and holding for the long term because it worked—the strategy was considered a near sure thing. That world has changed. As we’ve crossed the threshold into the new millennium, we’ve witnessed corporate scandals that have not only rocked the stock prices of the firms involved, but that have had a tremendous effect on the stability of the market as a whole. We’ve witnessed major scrutiny over the manner in which some financial analysts have disseminated information over the years. Fears of biased reporting and conflicts of interest have left small investors wondering whom and what information they can really trust.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Beginner's guide to an Advanced Topic?, November 28, 2005

In this short book, the author introduces the reader to Day Trading, a form of stock investing that tries to capitalize on slight fluctuations in the market over the course of the day.

The information presented here falls into three categories:

1 - How to get started. This includes the technical aspects of what type of computer to use, internet connections and software requirements. He discusses potential lunchtime locations you may choose to do your trading and how to find the right spot.

2 - How to buy and sell stocks
This covers such stock-trading specific information as on-line brokerages, fees, and commissions. He discusses some of tools that are available for the trader to get information.

3 - How to pick stocks and time the buys and sells. In this category, he presesnt three strategies. The Last Hour of Trading, Buying on the Dip and Sympathy Plays. He also gives good advice on when to NOT hang on to a stock.

This book is easy to read, but I have some concerns. I am not an active stock market investor so am not qualified to judge the investing strategies covered. But I my humble opinion, the mix of entry-level, simple how-to-get-started information (although good information) here with what I consider to be a more advanced and high risk approach to investing may lead the reader to assume it is safer than it really is.

This book contains good information but new investors should start sloooooow.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding reference book, November 30, 2004

To ensure you perceive this review as credible (and I do hope you will), I must first state my bias: I know and respect the author and I reviewed the book while he was in the process of writing it.

So, yes, given that connection I know it's not exactly a surprise that I would rate the book so highly. But I truly believe this is an outstanding book worthy of this level of praise. This is why.

One, the author understands the real world. We all have a lot we need to do, but we don't have a lot of time. But we also know that getting rich overnight is usually a fantasy. Everything he talks about is grounded in that, and so you see him as credible.

Equally important, he doesn't merely skim over the less glamorous topic of how to actually DO what he talks about, in fact he focuses on it. I like that much of the book is step by step guidance on how to get started with wireless online investing, what options you have and how to decide which is best for you, common problems you might encounter and how to solve them, and so on. All the little details.

This is an excellent reference book, both on conservative investing strategies and on using wireless technology, full of information and yet concise and easy to absorb.

Very readable, very, very interesting and fun! This is an amazing way to learn about investing and to take charge of your finances. With the potential of what you can make, it opens up the opportunities of going after your dreams. There is an enormous amount of information and I thought I knew much about the exchanges and investing.

What I enjoy most about this book is that it feels like you are learning a way of making money that is easy and you are learning it from a friend, like you have an inside track. There are a tremendous number of Web resources. With the 3 clear strategies, trading and winning at it seems so doable. The timing on this book couldn't be better Wi Fi, ECNs, 3G. This companion-like book will get you through the not so familiar arena of the trading world.
