Format: Audio CD
"Lure the Fox" is darker and louder than Haley Bonar's first album. At first listen it's not as irresistable as "The Size of Planets", but there is more sophistication and texture to the songs, which cross and recross the lines between folk and rock. There's a strong grunge infulence in many of the tracks, like the Nirvana-inspired "Daisy Girls", while "Ransom" and "Give It Up" would not be out of place on a Top 40 station. But the best songs - the stangely lifting "Fox and Hound", "Captain,Captain" with its haunting piano echoes, the sad & intimate "Us" - are straight out folk. "Lure of the Fox" travels - to Hawaii, the Blue Ridge mountains, even outer space - yet never strays far from Bonar's South Dakota roots ... this is an elusive album that can be followed but never quite cornered.

(PS. If you see the movie Sweet Land - which I highly highly recommend - that's Haley singing during the credits.)

I love this album. I just discovered Haley on Facebook (sorry, embarrassing I know). Is it the recording or the MP3 transfer that accounts for distortion? I'd be interested to know if CD owners also hear fuzzy edges on the bass and keyboard sounds. Her voice is clear, so maybe it was just a cheap recording. This is my first experience downloading an MP3, and maybe my last. Anyway, I LOVE HALEY!

This is a work of art, that is as depressing, as it is great. I felt empathy for her, but understood her clearly.
