Ressurecting the Tech Thrash genre,
By
This review is from: Lurking Fear (Audio CD)
The case of Mekong Delta is truly unique. In terms of style this band is the sole representative of the Technical Thrash Metal genre. This album marks the comeback of master composer Ralf Hubert and his newly assembled version of Mekong Delta after approximately 10 years of silence.
This album is composed/ arranged solely by bass player Hubert and performed by a band of perfectionists the most recognizable being Uli Kusch on drums (current "Ride The Sky", ex- "Masterplan", "Sinner", "Helloween", "Gamma Ray"). Lurking Fear retains the very high musical standards of its predecessors; however it might fall slightly short in comparison to iconic Delta tech Thrash records such as "The Music of Erich Zann" and "The Principal of Doubt". This is by no means an easy listener even in terms of heavy metal. One has to play the disc through quite a few times in order to become familiar with the structure of the compositions as it happens with most encephalic albums. "Power Play" UK Magazine (issue 92) marks this album with 7/10 commenting: "I have to say I find a lot of it pretty hard to listen to...", "...How this fits into the contemporary thrash scene I am not entirely sure...", "...It's well worth checking out..." |
