love this series,
By BRO "Barbara" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

I am so pleased to see Lori's latest installation in her luscious dessert series and think it is as every bit as good as lemon, chocolate, and berries (which are in a word excellent). I used to make dessert just for company, but Lori inspires me to try more (nothing like pie for breakfast). And nothing I've ever tried has failed or disappointed. I think she must be an indefatigable recipe tester and writer because her recipes always work.

Dessert Guy Recommends...,

I'm slightly fat-phobic so the title made me hesitant. But having used Lori's previous "Luscious" books with great success I took the plunge into "Creamy". So glad that I did!
Lori's writing is clear, informative and always enthusiastic. And most importantly the recipes are consistent winners. And despite my initial misgivings, these desserts are really light and delicious.

View from a 'hack' baker,

I write this as someone who is not really a baker, and barely a cook. But to me, this is the best of the author's dessert book series. I do love chocolate, but 'creamy' as a dessert theme speaks to me even more. I'm always on the lookout for the ultimate slice of banana cream pie at restaurants, particularly diners. Sadly, I see it offered less and less--maybe because it's so perishable or simply just not PC anymore, what with the calorie police and all. Her recipe for it on page 63, if you follow it exactly, will taste better than any I've eaten in a very long time. Trust me on this. And any fool can make it. Definitely another book to have.

Worth every calorie,

This is the simplest and most decadent dessert book I own. The fat in the cream makes everything taste better, and shouldn't dessert be luxurious? Also, if you like caramel, you'll love this book because many of the recipes are enriched with it in creamy or crunchy form. Although some of the desserts require multiple steps and planning ahead, some are as basic as placing a few great ingredients in a bowl. The ones I've tried are beautiful and delicious!

As a Professional Pastry Chef I have used a lot of books for inspiration and this one moves to the top of my list. I found this to be a lovely and well thought out book, with terrific directions. Lemon, Chocolate, now Creamy......what's next? Please keep them coming!

I own all the Luscious dessert books but Ms. Longbotham has outdone herself with this one! Packed with great ideas and gorgeous photos, this is a cookbook that makes you itch to get into the kitchen and get going. And since all the recipes are well written and very doable, I'll be doing just that.

More luscious desserts from Lori!,
This review is from: Luscious Creamy Desserts (Hardcover)
Who knew creamy desserts came in so many different and delicious forms? Caramel and Cream Layer Cake, Grand Marnier Pots de Crème, Lemon Meringue Ice Cream, Chilled Chocolate Soufflé, and Cannoli Cheesecake are just some of the 80 delectable desserts in Lori Longbotham's latest book. She also includes information on ingredients, techniques ("Custard 101"), and equipment, and her recipe instructions are clear and unintimidating, as always. The recipe notes are fun to read, and there are color photographs of many of the tempting sweets. And if you don't have the other books in the "Luscious" series--Lemon, Chocolate, and Berries--be sure to add them to your list too!

Wow!,

I learned so much from this book. As a new cook, Ms. Longbotham gave me enough instruction to make the best chilled chocolate souffle with ginger, and I love that she gave me in-season options for making this dish. I cannot wait to make the gorgeous caramel and cream layer cake for my brother's birthday! I know he will love it!

Luscious and more Luscious,

Just as in the other "Luscious" books, everything is well researched and explained clearly. The recipes are creative, imaginative and so much fun to eat. Who ever thought that browned butter could be used so many ways!
As a cooking teacher and chef, Lori Longbottom books give me a place to hunt for new ideas that always work and taste so good. Can't wait to make the fried Venetian custard!
