Editorial Reviews

Jacintha returns with her finest album to date! Lush Life features the acclaimed jazz vocalist along with the brilliant string arrangements of Bill Cunliffe. Also featured are flugelhorn master Dmitry Matheny, guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist Darek Oles and drummer Joe LaBarbera. Lush Life is stunning on XRCD2! "This is Jacintha's third album, and her first with strings. Very popular in her native Singapore, she's beginning to get a worldwide reputation, and this release demonstrates why: her voice is lovely, with clear diction and expressive, naturalistic phrasing. She draws the listener into a warm intimacy from the first track, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", a rarely-covered and beautiful song with the perfect rainy-night-in-Paris ambience supplied by Frank Marocco on accordian." "Other highlights include a bluesy but refreshingly non-wailing "Black Coffee" with a fine understated solo by Bill Cunliffe on piano; he's also good on the silky bossa "Manha de Carnaval", where Anthony Wilson's melodic plucking contrasts nicely with the smoothness of the strings. This XRCD2 was mastered by Alan Yoshida from the original analogue master at Oceanway/JVC Mastering, Hollywood, California. Musicians: Jacintha, vocals; Bill Cunliffe, piano & string arrangements; Darek Oles, bass; Joe LaBarbera, drums; Dmitri Matheny, flugelhorn; Anthony Wilson, guitar; Frankie Marocco, accordian.

5.0 out of 5 stars COOL AS COOL CAN BE...., January 26, 2008

This review is from: Lush Life (Audio CD)
I PICKED UP THIS C D ON THE ADVICE OF A JAZZ MUSICIAN WHO HAS PLAYED WITH DIANA KRALL.HE LIKED THE SULTRY PRESENTATION AND HE WAS RIGHT ON!!!JACINTHA'S RENDITIONS OF "BLACK COFFEE" AND "SMILE" ARE MY FAVOURITES AND IN MY OPINION THERE IS NOT A WEAK TRACK ON THIS RELEASE.AS A RESULT I ORDERED A FEW MORE OF HER RELEASES.I LIKE THE FACT THAT SHE IS NOT "IN YOUR FACE" AS WITH SOME JAZZ VOCALISTS WHO TEND TO OVER POWER THE MICROPHONE WITH THEIR VOICE....

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Stuff, July 7, 2002
This review is from: Lush Life (Audio CD)
Diane Krall is great and so is Jacintha. I don't understand why everyone is'nt running around talking about Jacintha. This recording is fantastic. Her wonderful voice draws you right in, the back up musicians are excellent, the songs are well chosen and the recording is pure audiophile heaven. This is my album to chill out on for the time being. I hope Jacintha will play in Singapore very soon.

PS Get it on vinyl if you have a turntable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dry Martini - stirred not shaken, August 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Lush Life (Audio CD)
I like a wide variety of music, Megadeth to Union Station and I appreciate fine audio recordings. Jacintha seemed like she maybe out of my scope of my preferred styles, but purchased "The Girl From Bossa Nova" based on reports of good sonics and that I was looking for that style of music for my collection. That album enticed me to buy more Jacintha because her vocals and execution are compelling. Being an audiophile nut I found the audiophile content to be most enjoyable. The arrangements are fresh, cool and interesting.
Mix a dry Martini with two olives(stirred NOT shaken), turn the lights down very low, slide Jacintha into your expensive SACD player, sit back and just listen.
Be careful she gets under your skin; I have 3 of her albums now.
