Years ago I had seen on the internet a beautiful, and haunting, illustration of the Twin Towers that Jill had done. It was artistically masterful, beautiful in its way, and most importantly heartfelt.

Jill uses her great talent to document through her illustrations and words the world of mixology, bartenders, bars and lounges, and the characters that inhabit them. And, characters they are!

If you've ever sat on a barstool and had really good conversation with your bartender or the guy sitting next to you, that's what LUSH LIFE is about. I loved this great collection of caricature-portraits of prominent bartenders, their clientele and their off-beat anecdotes. These characters are a delight to look at and the "confessions" fun to read.

"Lush Life" will put a smile on your face and in your heart as well.This book has been a source of joy for my wife, myself and guests to our home. Jill Degroff's caricatures and accompanying stories from behind the bar are simply delightful. If you are a cocktail lover, an industry insider, or a fan of the illustrated form, this book is not to be missed. The production quality is extremely high for a paperback, and the visual craftsmanship with the laugh-out-loud narratives from spirited cocktail experts is an inspired (and inspiring) combination. It may not be a drinkable, but LushLife: Portraits from the Bar is most certainly satisfying.
