Fathon, one of the best albums ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Lusis/Fathom (Audio CD)
In 1993, I chose to buy Fathom because it had a cool cover. I never imagined that what I was buying would turn out to be one of the best alternative/industrial albums I have ever heard. Fathom to this day ranks among what I consider to be one of the best CD's ever released. From the powerful "Alive and Awake" to the ballad like "Jil Sent Me", Jerome and Gyro inspire and provide a quality sound unparalled in most of the alternative genre. For those who have still not heard of mortal, I made believers out of an entire dorm floor at college. Check it out when it is re-released in 2000, Lusis is not too bad either.

Simply incredible!,

These CD's belong in the collection of anyone who enjoys industrial music. Jyro is a phenomenal musician, and his compositions are, in my mind, the perfect blend of heavy guitars, movie samples ("Blade Runner", "Aliens"...even "A Wonderful Life", and several more I didn't recognize) and techno-influenced synths. Icing to the cake is Jyro's vocals--from the haunting "Rift", hard-core "Neplusultra", eclectic "Fisherman", Jyro can do it all, and does it all well.
The lyrics are intelligent, thoughtful, and uplifting...without sounding out-of-place in this style of music. The highlights of Lusis and Fathom, in no particular order: 1) "The Rift"--probably my favorite track from the two discs; 2) "Enfleshed--the Word is alive"; 3) "Mytho-X"; 4) "Cryptic"; 5) "Bright Wings"; 6) "Godspeed"; 7) oh yeah, the secret track, too :) Mortal changed my mind about Christian music, and now I rarely listen to secular, anymore...not a small feat. Enjoy!

Awwwwwwesome!,
This review is from: Lusis/Fathom (Audio CD)
These guys are musical geniuses. I don't listen to much modern Christian music since I just can't get into the music. Has to be more than just inspirational lyrics for me to listen to it. These two CDs are great and I hope to find more songs similar to these guys. It's equal or better than any mainstream music!

anyone who likes heavy or industrial music should at least give this a listen.
"lusis" is pretty good. but "fathom" is one of the best albums of all time (imho) incredibly intelligent lyrics (including a reworking of a poem by gerard manley hopkins, a jesuit priest!), deep rich heavy guitar work and industrial sound... amazing. i love the movie bytes, too - from, as mentioned, blade runner, but also from a little known but good little film called 'split second', one of the few really good movies that rutger hauer was ever in. also riffed are 'dune' and the star trek movie. this is what all christian albums should be: creative and with extremely high craftsmanship.

Great industrial/heavy alternative music....,

LUSIS, Mortal's first album is pretty good. Catchy keyboard rhythms with guitar and some voice samplings. I don't mind it, but it pales in comparison to FATHOM their second album. FATHOM is one mega dose of EXCELLENT industrial. If you like industrial, GET IT!!! I like almost every song on there, but I have some favorites. 'Neplusultra' is heavy killer industrial track. 'Jil Sent Me' is a very lovely ballad with cellos and backbeat. 'Above And Beyond' is a catchy industrial tune. 'Rainlight' is a short track telling about a friendship. And my favorite track is next 'Bright Wings'...an awesome backbeat with catchy beat and guitar. Not heavy, not mellow. It is my absolute favorite. Next would be 'Promulgate', another killer industrial track. 'Electrify' is also a cool but slower track that is cool to hear. I recommend FATHOM all the way! Wonderful album. Only reason I gave this 4 stars is because LUSIS is not as great in my opinion...

I picked this up a few years ago. Oh MY GOODNESS!!! A must for any mortal fan. If you don't have it already, I highly recommend it. These 2 cds together are filled with high energy, fast paced music with a couple of slower songs to get you ready for more. Plus wait for the bonus song at the end of one the albums. I won't tell which, it's a great suprise.

That's right. I don't own the most PHENOMENAL ALBUM EVER RELEASED. I have heard it and am now on a crusade to own it. My life has been significantly improved because of this CD. (Listen for the samples from Dune...)
