In one word...Amazing,
This review is from: Lust for Blood (Audio CD)
Lust for Blood is a masterpiece and it truly shows that Velvet Acid Christ is here to stay. On this album, we can clearly see a dramatic change not only in album production but also in song writing and sound quality as well. Bryan Erickson, the mastermind behind VAC, has excellent taste in all kinds of music and he demonstrates that on this album. As a result, no two songs on LFB are exactly the same. From the second "Wound" starts, you know you are in for something special. It is the perfect way to start the album and is filled with emotion that gets under your skin. "Crushed" is full of beautiful guitars reminiscent of The Cure with VAC's trademark distorted vocals on top. "Disconnected Nightmare" on the other hand, will instantly appeal to longtime fans and is reminiscent of the 1999-2000 era of VAC. "Polyester Meth Zeus" has an undeniable amount of industrial flavor to it and is angry and power driven. In my opinion, "Ghost in the Circuit" is VAC's most beautiful song ever due to the heavenly choirs and endless layers of sound. "Machine" shows a completely different side to VAC altogether and both the vocals and the music and will definitely surprise longtime fans. "Blood" is the dark epic of the album and is complete with evil sounding piano and guitar and seems like it's beckoning the apocalypse. "Psychoaktive Landscapes" and "Ghost Regen" are two more awesome instrumentals, the former of which actually shares many similarities with the legendary electronic duo Orbital. This album marks a new era for Velvet Acid Christ and guarantees them a place in the history of electronic music. Whether you are new to Velvet Acid Christ or are a diehard fan, you owe it to yourself to buy this album.

Yay for new VAC material,
This review is from: Lust for Blood (Audio CD)
I am relatively new to Velvet Acid Christ's music so I can't pretend to be an expert on their music. I recently acquired the new VAC album "Lust for Blood". I was not disappointed to say the very least. "Lust for Blood" has all the elements in electro/industrial music that I like. Normally I do not enjoy distorted vocals but in this case, I liked the distorted vocals. The only negative thing about the distorted vocals that I couldn't understand what Bryan Erickson was singing about without looking at the cd booklet. I especially loved the instrumental tracks which were quite beautiful, a far contrast from the harsh distorted beats of the other songs. I wasn't too impressed with VAC's previous studio effort "Hex Angel". It wasn't bad but it wasn't all that great either. The music didn't really capture the essence of Velvet Acid Christ like their previous albums and now "Lust for Blood". The lyrics may be cheesy but at least Bryan Erickson doesn't take himself too seriously with his music like a lot of industrial bands do.

VAC's best album since Calling Of The Dead,

Now I am not a huge Velvet Acid Christ follower by any means, but I do listen to a lot of electronic music. I started listening to VAC back in 97 when Calling OF The Dead came out. That record is still fantastic to this day and showcases great samples, synths, guitars, and atmosphere. The following releases Fun With Knives, Twisted Thought Generator, and Hex Angel were pretty lackluster and boring in my opinion. They showcased over-use of samples and the same boring raver-synths. Basically I couldn't tell VAC apart from the other electronic industrial bands. Well, I took a chance with Lust For Blood because I heard there was more guitar and lusher melodies than before. The result is one of the best industrial dance albus I have heard in years. Even the synths on this record are fresh sounding. The vocals are very wispy and quiet and the guitar is played in a warm tone. This album has everything going for it and I am surprised that after a series of duds VAC has once again made a fantastically dark album. I love the theme of the album too. Very morbid and not so cheesy like Fun With Knives. I totally recommend this to even the Casual industrial/electronic fan. Fun album

Velvet Acid Christ comes for your blood,
By Morokiane (Las Vegas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lust for Blood (Audio CD)
Velvet Acid Christ is my favorite band, the first CD I ever heard by them is Twisted Thought Generator (TTG), it and Fun with Knives (FWK) are my top favorite, but there is nothing that I really don't like that has been done by VAC. Hex Angel though was a disappointment for me, it just didn't have that VAC cathiness that kept me coming back for more. So I was kind of weary upon listening to Lust for Blood. Though it might lack the trance stylings of FWK and TTG it is a well thought out, well put together CD that topples what Hex-Angel was. This album is a dark, broody, elegant musically feast. Some of the songs just send chills up my spine. Some of the songs remind me of older VAC from Fate and Pestilence. This goes on to prove that VAC can still make good music time and time again, while keeping it fresh and new.

not the greatest album by VAC, but not the worst, either. the real stand-out tracks are, in my opinion, 'wound', 'blood' and especially 'lust'. the entire album is enjoyable, kind of a more-enjoyable "hex angel". the best version of 'wound', however, is on the 'wound' cd single....bryan should really sing on more tracks, the songs sound more interesting when he does. 'blood' has a metal feel to it, and 'lust' sounds like something The Cure might've written. i would recommend buying the album; it's got some good tracks on it. it's not as danceable as "fun with knives" or ttg, but it's better than "hex angel".

I'm going to be brutally honest, this album pales in comparison to past releases from Bryan Erickson. Fun with Knives was fantastic, Twisted Thought Generator blew me away, and Hex Angel was so dark and twisted that I couldn't stop listening to it. Unfortunately, however, Erickson seems to have lost his touch.
"Wound" is probably the strongest track on the album, which says alot. The whole song is layered on top of a weak sampled drum loop (YES, IT IS A SAMPLED DRUM LOOP. Plagiarism anyone?). Other than the obvious piracy, this track is pretty decent and should have been on Hex Angel. "Parasite" sounds promising at first, but IT GOES NOWHERE! There isn't even a chorus! It sounds like an unfinished demo, and should NOT be the second track on a finished album! "Discoloured Eyes" gives the false impression that it will be an awesome track, but after a couple minutes it becomes apparent that it is the most repetitive song Mr. Erickson has ever composed. It simply does not change from beginning to end, save for a few extra synths slapped on top of the boring, never-changing beat. "Crushed" is actually brilliant, but suffers from poor production quality. The guitars sound like they were recorded with a $20 microphone. Seeing as Bryan is a veteran composer, this is unacceptable. You see where I'm going with this. Rather than review every single song on the album, I'll just leave potential buyers with this warning: STEER CLEAR OF THIS UNINSPIRED GARBAGE. The album has about 4 decent songs on it (Wound, Crushed, Disconnected Nightmare, and Ghost in the Circuit), but this should never be considered reason enough to purchase an album. In light of all of the A-list industrial that VAC has produced in the past, I am left asking myself one question: what the hell has happened to Bryan Erickson? He was able to produce one solid album after quitting the drugs (Hex Angel), so why wasn't he able to do it again? Maybe the introduction of other songwriters has somehow resulted in the drying-up of the ispiration well. Maybe Bryan should keep VAC as a solo project. Whatever the reason for the lack of substance on this recording, Lust for Blood is by far the most stale thing Erickson has ever produced in his long career. I'll give it two stars for Disconnected Nightmare and Ghost in the Circuit, which are the only flawless tracks on the album. -DM

This is the essential masterpiece we have longed for!,

'Lust For Blood' is the album that cements Bryan's master attention to details and textures to his range of influences. This album is remarkably cunning and a powerful listening experience. Each track is a sonic experience that moves through many levels. Each album Bryan creates is an edification in sound. They mystify and dig into your guts in wicked ways! 'Lust' is an expanse of beautiful noise and fortified angst. Velvet Acid Christ will curdle your blood and exploit your dance moves in ways you might have thought not possible.
I have one grand wish to make! Would love to hear and see these songs played live Bryan! One day...we can all hope!

VAC has really impressed me with this one... I was fearing it may be worse than 2003's "Hex Angel" (good album but weak for VAC standards if you ask me). I'm happy to report that this album really delivers. You will find Bryan trying all kinds of genres here (rock, synth pop, trance, EBM, industrial) and there are some real stand outs here. My personal favorites would be the 3 instrumentals: Ghost in the Circuit, Psychoactive Landscape and Ghost Regen. VAC has become something really special in the electronic music world.

Most of the music on this album is very good, however, the vocals and lyrics leave a lot to be desired. The vocals are distorted because let's face it, Bryan can't sing or write good lyrics. Another low point is movie samples. There is nothing more pleasant than hearing low quality samples with background noise, and static in your music. The worst song is "Lust" - same guitar riff for 3 minutes, and very uninspired lyrics. The instrumental tracks are excellent though.
