5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Stephanie Plum, you have some competition
Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss is the fourth novel in a series about a novelist turned amateur detective. Sophie Katz has no idea how she keeps finding herself in these situations, her mother has taken to calling her "the mortician", due to the fact that she is forever finding dead bodies. Can you imagine what this would do to a nice Jewish mother? oy...

2.0 out of 5 stars LEAST favorite book in the series!
I feel like I read a different book then all the other reviewers. Let me first say that I have really enjoyed the past 3 Sophie Katz books, but this book was frustrating to read! The other books had fun plots, but this one was annoying- Sophie is so consumed with buying this house (FYI- buying a house is not a plot spoiler, you learn this in the first few pages in the...

Can you imagine what this would do to a nice Jewish mother? oy!

Sophie has a bit of help on her side, her boyfriend just happens to be a P.I. kind of like Magnum. He gets hired to catch cheating husbands in the act, and to stop employees from robbing their bosses blind. He also maintains a full time job trying to keep track of what trouble Sophie has gotten herself into.

Her best friends never let her down either, Marcus the gay dreamboat hairstylist seems to always be a partner in crime, willingly or not. Then there is Dena, the owner of a sex shop with a wandering eye and a yen for excitement. Lastly there is her sister Leah, but shes a story whole other story in and of herself.

When Sophie starts finding bodies while house hunting, she finds herself the suspect of a murder. Granted, she is one of many suspects, but she must work to clear her name and snag an amazing Victorian for an unbelievable bargain. The only problem is, her slimy ex-husband is the real estate agent for the house, and the person selling the house is a bit crazy. She has no idea why she is so drawn to this house, and when Kane (the seller) tells her she has to contact ghosts for him because the house is haunted, she finds herself in the most hilarious and unpredictable situations yet.

Kyra Davis scores another hit with the fourth instillation in the Sophie Katz series. The book has a great balance of relationship drama, mystery, suspense and family issues. This would make a great beach read!

This review is from: Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss (Kindle Edition)
I have read all of the Sophie Katz novels and have enjoyed them all. They are fun fast reads that are suspensful yet light. I thought this books was different from the other books- more spooky. I am so happy that all of the characters are back- including Jason (the vampire wannabe). I hope there are more books to come!

I've read all the previous Sohpie Katz books and I knew I had to pick up this one as well. It was really good and I found myself not wanting to put it down! I really hope to see more Sophie Katz mysteries in the future!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stephanie Plum Reincarnated as Hot Confident San Francisco Writer, May 13, 2010
If you like Janet Evanovich, Sex and The CIty, the Sookie Stackhouse books or Sofie Metropolis series, you will love author Kyra Davis. These mix humor, mystery, sleuthing and romance without the self deprecating, formulaic crap you get with so called "chick lit". This installment of the series adds another twist. A little more family history and a tiny bit of the paranormal (but not too much to get all sci-fi on us). I love that San Francisco is a character in these books, but without boring descriptions or taking itself too seriously like some books (eh hem, Sex and The City).

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, September 14, 2009

Funny and witty, Kyra Davis' books haven't disappointed me yet! My only regret here is that I didn't re-read one of the prior novels before turning to this one. I felt that it might have been useful to recall more of the backstory between her and Anatoly, or even better details of her other escapades! But great series, I wish there were more, and I am recommending them to my friends!

I have to say, I love this series. It fun, witty, suspenseful, and unforgettable. This was the first series read in female sleuth mystery and I am grateful that I bought this book. I hope this series continues for it is a great sit down read, to relax and to unwind. I recommend this series to all young adults. I can not wait for the next novel!!!!!!!!!!

This was a fun book to read that I couldn't put down until the last sentence was reaad. I enjoyed the antics of Sophie and her friends. I There is so much in this book, suspense, romance, mystery, friendship and family drama. If you like Stephanie Plum, Brandy Alexander, then you'll simply adore Sophie Katz. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Favorite Mystery Author, July 4, 2009
Maybe it's the book titles that do it. First there was Sex Murder and a Double Latte. Next came Passion, Betrayal, and Killer Highlights and then there was Obsession, Deceit, and Really Dark Chocolate. All wonderful titles! Now finally there is Kyra Davis' fourth Sophie Katz novel, Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss.

Sophie Katz is the creation of Kyra Davis and my favorite mystery heroine since Nancy Drew. She is smart, cute, silly, adventurous and more than a little addicted to Starbucks and chocolate. In this latest novel she is equally obsessed with a beautiful Victorian home that must be hers.

Kyra Davis proves once again what a talented writer she is with this latest Sophie novel.
