Easy to use, inexpensive, and works just fine. Many people don't realize how important it is to plant vegetables when the soil is at the proper temp for that particular type. Use of this thermometer, along with the chart they include of the ideal temp for many different varieties, makes it easy and you'll be surprised at how much better your plants grow if you have only been using the calendar to determine when to plant your garden.

This soil thermometer works well. This is actually the second one I've owned. I bought the first one to take mushroom-hunting. I purchased the second one when I lost the first one after inserting it in the ground, turning my back and then being unable to see the green top for all the undergrowth. It's still out there.

The second one won't be placed in service until the top has been painted red.
