This is exactly what I wanted for checking soil temperature before putting in different seeds/plants. Snap peas/radishes don't mind cool soil, tomato plants need warmer soil, and I find pumpkin seeds need it warmer still. This thermometer is great to use throughout planting season, temperature reading responds quickly, and the dial is easy to read, don't need to bend down to see it. (This is my second thermometer: I accidentally left my first one in the garden over the summer, forgot about it and ran my tractor tiller over it in the fall. They do not handle tilling well!)

Very strong construction and seems to be accurate, will help to check soil temp in spring for seed sowing.

Placed in glass of water with ice for over 30 minutes - never read below about 41-42F.
Finally placed in ice tray in freezer, same results. Allegedly reports 30F-90F.

I wanted a thermometer that had a full range of temperatures and instead got one that just measures spring soil temperatures. I did not see that limitation in the advertisement. I will keep it for spring, but it is not all I wanted.

It looks nice, it feels sturdy; I thought it was perfect for the garden. However it broke within one month. The needle lost its calibration by 40 degrees. If you have one and like it, treat it gently.

It's easy to read and the minimum temps are right on the dial face, but it told me my house plants were below freezing.
