Product Description

A young country boy is plunged into the depths of homicidal madness after witnessing the strange exploits of a carnival "geek", a caged drunk so desperate for whiskey that he bites the heads off of live chickens in front of a freak show audience. 30 years later, Luther is all grown up and out on parole after spending his childhood behind bars for a series of grisly murders. Armed with a pair of razor-sharp metal dentures and only able to communicate through chicken clucks, Luther starts his bloody rampage anew as he terrorizes the citizens of a small town and takes a young mother and her family hostage in their isolated farmhouse. Featuring one of the most intense endings ever put on film, Luther the Geek is good gory fun in the splatter flick tradition of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Toxic Avenger!

Violent and maniacal low budget horror thriller that works on many levels with an interesting and original storyline.
John Lindsey
The gore effects are done well and the acting as good as can be for a z-grade movie.

This film is out there. You will never see anything like this again. Mind you this is not a Troma original, they just got the rights to release it. Edward Terry's performance of Luther is spectacular considering he doesnt say one word in the film. He just clucks like a chicken. The ending isnt too shocking, its actually pretty funny. The gore when shown is pretty good. The action was so-so. The young daughter in the film has very nice breasts and they are shown here lovingly(also as an extra check out the extended shower scene). For the price of this dvd you cant beat it. It comes with interviews(the director), deleted scenes, an intro by Loyd Kaufman who is very zany but entertaining. Plus there are other bonus's like real-life freaks and for some odd reason two short videos on how animals are slaughtered and why you should be vegan. Obviously Troma support Veganism, and I do agree and see their point, but why is this on the "Luther The Geek" dvd? Its a very cruel, sad video. Overall a good addition to a horror movie fan's collection.

Sorry for the ridiculous title but this crazy film deserves nothing less. "Luther the Geek" is a basic slasher movie containing a few things that truly set it apart from most. First, the actor who portrays Luther does an excellent job at portraying a seriously deranged psychotic. I don't know of too many actors who could pull off the fact that their only dialouge consists of squawking like a chicken, yet not make it seem funny. Second, a generally twisted feel overall that culminates in a very unsettling ending. The film also has a clausterphobic feel to it as most of the action takes place in or around an isolated farmhouse, somewhat in a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" mold. The gore effects are generally good with the vomiting blood scene being the most shocking. "Luther the Geek" is simply a disturbing movie that is one of my guilty pleasures, check it out. One note, since Troma acquired this, they have tacked on a rather obscene prolouge with Lloyd Kaufman introducing the film. Normally his stuff is kind of funny, this one is just tasteless.

I remember watching this movie when I was about ten years old. It scared me because it was filmed in and around my hometown. My uncle showed me the film because it was part of our town's history.

All in all, this is a campy film that will either scare you or make you laugh. The older I get, the less effect it has on me. Don't get me wrong, I love to see it on DVD, it's just that this movie will not appeal to everyone. There are moments when I am still frightened.

I should mention that my grandmother did all the wallpaper in the house that was used in the movie and that it looks great!

This is a great horror story, and I think everyone should see it. It should not be limited to people who know it because it was filmed in our small town.

Yeah I know it's not really a 5 star movie. BUT If you watch it, you are presumably a slasher fan. And for a slasher movie, this is definitely 5 stars if only for the character of Luther himself. Wow, with no dialog, just body language and clucking, he presents a whole persona.

This is obviously influenced by THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. It was made in 1990 but feels like an 80s film. There's no chainsaw killer in this film, but the fans of that classic will notice that it was an influence here. The killer doesn't hide in the shadows like in other 80s slasher flicks; he's shown throughout the film. It's about a kid called Luther who joins an angry torch wielding mod to harass a circus geek who bites the heads off chickens. The kid starts to get in the way, and then one of those people pushes him aside; and then he falls down and knocks out some of his teeth. When he grows up, he's incarcerated for murder. However, he's then paroled. He makes himself a metal mouthpiece and travels to a countryside house where he begins chomping on whoever comes by. The body count in the film is low, but the violence is brutal and graphic. Unlike many other slashers from the 80s, the violence is more disturbing than fun. There's also a gratuitous shower scene, and the films pace is pretty fast. The film is intense, and I thought the replay value was really good.

This DVD is obviously mastered from a VHS master tape. The colors look washed out but overall the quality was decent. Extras include the extended Stacy Haiduk shower scene outtakes. You get to see a lengthy scene with more explicit shots. The quality on the shower scene outtakes is soft, but the color and contrast are better than what's shown in the film.

An odd movie about a deranged "geek"(not a nerd, but a REAL geek-one who bites heads off chickens)paroled from prison on a murder charge to resume his mayhem. He sets his sights on a remote farm-house and all heck breaks loose! After a silly intro the flick slips into a cool suspenseful groove.TROMA put out this dvd and has all the usual TROMA stuff as well as some good Luther extras with extended and/or deleted scenes, drector(with cute dog)interview, and other suff.Check it out.

My experience w/ TROMA has been hit and miss. With LUTHER THE GEEK, TROMA has struck pure, gooshy gold! LUTHER is a straight-ahead, maniac-on-the-loose movie w/ a wonderful lunatic (Edward Terry) that has been traumatized into acting / clucking like a chicken. As absurd as this may sound, it actually works! The plot, about LUTHER's (unwise) release from prison, and his subsequent assault on a rural family, is pulled off w/ genuinely disturbing style and insane glee! While I highly recommend LTG to all gorehundts, I also recommend it for those looking for an original, interesting horror film...
