5.0 out of 5 stars Luther The Geek gets the loaded DVD treatment
This film is out there. You will never see anything like this again. Mind you this is not a Troma original, they just got the rights to release it. Edward Terry's performance of Luther is spectacular considering he doesnt say one word in the film. He just clucks like a chicken. The ending isnt too shocking, its actually pretty funny. This was a brilliant film and I'm just floored at how it was treated. It should have been released by Synapse or Anchor Bay...not Troma. The box art for this release is just goofy and amateurish. Is there no possible way Troma can find somebody other than a 16 yr. old with Photoshop to do their graphic design? One of the highlights of this flick was the gore, it was...

Sorry for the ridiculous title but this crazy film deserves nothing less. "Luther the Geek" is a basic slasher movie containing a few things that truly set it apart from most. First, the actor who portrays Luther does an excellent job at portraying a seriously deranged psychotic. I don't know of too many actors who could pull off the fact that their only dialouge consists of squawking like a chicken, yet not make it seem funny. Second, a generally twisted feel overall that culminates in a very unsettling ending. The film also has a clausterphobic feel to it as most of the action takes place in or around an isolated farmhouse, somewhat in a "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" mold. The gore effects are generally good with the vomiting blood scene being the most shocking. "Luther the Geek" is simply a disturbing movie that is one of my guilty pleasures, check it out. One note, since Troma acquired this, they have tacked on a rather obscene prolouge with Lloyd Kaufman introducing the film. Normally his stuff is kind of funny, this one is just tasteless.

Edward Terry's performance of Luther is spectacular considering he doesnt say one word in the film. He just clucks like a chicken. The ending isnt too shocking, its actually pretty funny. The gore when shown is pretty good. The action was so-so. The young daughter in the film has very nice breasts and they are shown here lovingly(also as an extra check out the extended shower scene). For the price of this dvd you cant beat it. It comes with interviews(the director), deleted scenes, an intro by Loyd Kaufman who is very zany but entertaining. Plus there are other bonus's like real-life freaks and for some odd reason two short videos on how animals are slaughtered and why you should be vegan. Obviously Troma support Veganism, and I do agree and see their point, but why is this on the "Luther The Geek" dvd? Its a very cruel, sad video. Overall a good addition to a horror movie fan's collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Memories :-), August 21, 2005
This review is from: Luther the Geek (DVD)
I remember watching this movie when I was about ten years old. It scared me because it was filmed in and around my hometown. My uncle showed me the film because it was part of our town's history.

All in all, this is a campy film that will either scare you or make you laugh. The older I get, the less effect it has on me. Don't get me wrong, I love to see it on DVD, it's just that this movie will not appeal to everyone. There are moments when I am still frightened.

I should mention that my grandmother did all the wallpaper in the house that was used in the movie and that it looks great!

This is a great horror story, and I think everyone should see it. It should not be limited to people who know it because it was filmed in our small town.

Is there no possible way Troma can find somebody other than a 16 yr. old with Photoshop to do their graphic design? One of the highlights of this flick was the gore, it was fantastic. The acting was quite good and Edward Terry clucks like a demented chicken through most of the film; it just gave me chills.

4.0 out of 5 stars WTF!!!., September 22, 2010

Man, what an odd movie. It's one of those horror films that's so off-the-wall that I had to watch it more than once to figure out if I liked it or not. I have decided that I really do like it. I'm not really a big fan of Troma, infact most of their films are absolute garbage as far as I'm concerned, but occasionally they would come out with a great low budget cult classic like The Toxic Avenger or Bloodsucking Freaks and some hidden gems like this one. Luther The Geek is one of those thoroughly entertaining 'really bad movies', that's usually billed as a 'guilty pleasure.' I really hate that term too, I mean, why should anyone feel guilty for liking a movie? Make no mistake about it; no one in his or her right mind would ever identify Luther as a good movie. It's enjoyable because of the gore, awesome nudity, wacky characters and its many, many jaw droppingly bad scenes. Don't look for a great story, likeable characters or social commentary, because you won't find it here. As with any good 'bad' movie, Luther begins with a flashback. At a young age Luther bears witness to a 'geek' locked in a cage, teased and taunted for the people's amusement. Something is sparked in young Luther, then in the next scene we see Luther sharpening his metal teeth. Up for parole (and now an adult and clucking like a chicken apparently), Luther has seemingly been imprisoned for committing grisly acts of murder (receiving multiple life sentences), yet still his parole is granted. No sooner is Luther let loose on the streets that he starts harassing the townsfolk. Luther acts inappropriate at the super market in an unintentionally hilarious scene, he also attacks an old woman and bites and tears her throat out in a gory sequence with his metal teeth (best scene in the film). Trying to escape from being caught, Luther then makes his way to a farmhouse and imprisons a young woman returning home with some groceries, she gets tied up on the bed while her daughter returns from college with her boyfriend. Luther never says a word, he just clucks like a chicken and gets really angry when people don't understand him. When this young girl returns from school, she doesn't waste any time getting in the shower, but then again, she's got quite a rack on display ;-). The special features are typical from Troma, not worth watching twice but there were a couple of neat trailers. Overall I would say that it was an entertaining b-movie, if you really dig low budget, cheesy bad movies with bad dialogue, or have an interest in a man who imitates a chicken for over an hour and a half then check it out.

Campy, nerdy and a young Stacy Haiduk in the shower. Not a bad way to spend an hour and a half.

Low budget horror about a killer that acts like a chicken and gets paroled even though he acts like a chicken!Sounds about right!I probally would have only given 3 stars, but this dvd from troma is packed with hours of extras.I can't say I have ever seen a horror movie with a killer of this sort(Props for the originality).Yeah... it's moronic ,but that just makes it funny as hell. When you see this guy going around making chicken noises it's hard not to laugh.I gather that is the effect they were going for and it works on that level. The gore effects are done well and the acting as good as can be for a z-grade movie.A great pick up for the cult classic lover.

This review is from: Luther the Geek (DVD)
An odd movie about a deranged "geek"(not a nerd, but a REAL geek-one who bites heads off chickens)paroled from prison on a murder charge to resume his mayhem. He sets his sights on a remote farm-house and all heck breaks loose! After a silly intro the flick slips into a cool suspenseful groove.TROMA put out this dvd and has all the usual TROMA stuff as well as some good Luther extras with extended and/or deleted scenes, drector(with cute dog)interview, and other suff.Check it out.

A man named Luther once had a bad childhood when he witnessed a real freak eating live chicken heads and he grows up to become a maniac that talks like a Chicken and has razor-sharp metal dentures that can rip people's flesh apart. After murdering an old lady outside of a grocery store, he stowaway's in a woman's car and takes her hostage inside of a farmhouse as her daughter must try to save her including her boyfriend.

Violent and maniacal low budget horror thriller that works on many levels with an interesting and original storyline. The acting is kinda bad but hey! what B-movie doesn't? Director Cartlon J. Albright ("The Children") has succeeded in making a cult favorite that has been re-issued by Troma.

This DVD contains fair picture and sound with extras like introduction by Troma creator Lloyd Kaufman, interview with the director, Troma TV clip, Troma Trailers, "Make Your Own Damn Movie" in a Box ad and Radioation March short.
