5.0 out of 5 stars The velvet voice of Vandross July 6, 2005
What a wonderful singer we've just lost. This video is priceless. His renditions of A House is Not a Home and Superstar on this concert dvd can only be outdone by the man himself. Not only is Luther's voice velvety smooth but I guarantee that no one can adlib a song like he does. He could sing happy birthday and stretch it to last 30 minutes. There are great singers who can sing what's written on the page but they can't give you anything more than that (i.e. Whitney Houston). But it's all those little extras that Luther puts into a song that made it special.

Ladies and gents, I kid you not, when he sings Superstar it is truly mesmorizing. You actually feel exhausted when he finishes the song because it's packed with so much emotion. But while he sings it all you can do is sit there like you've been hypnotized, hanging on every note, and waiting for and wanting of it more even though you know he's done with it.

Luther has always prided himself on being a story teller. There's no talent required to write lyrics that ask us to get undressed and jump in the sack with someone. But a poet can find so many creative ways to express emotion and that's what holds your attention. It's the story of love being told. Not just songs about jumping on someone's bones. That's what brings out the feeling of love we have for one another. This is, today, a rare art. Whatever shall we do without Luther? There will never come another I'm afraid.

No one can compare to him and that's the heartbreaking thing of it all. I hope he now sings in the midst of the angels.

...And now another has taken flight,
to leave this world of hateful plight.
And when I close my eyes to be kissed,
I'll think of your music and how you'll be missed...

Rest well!

There will never be another Luther. You should treat yourself to this dvd before they become too hard to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars Luther, ya ain't never sounded better! May 28, 2003
Powerful performances in a world-class setting make this a keeper for fans of the singer and those that appreciate good talent. Never forgetting his humble backup singer beginnings, Vandross allows his supporting players, among those the brilliant Lisa Fischer, to shine in many of the selections.
During his current illness, it is a tribute to his status that Vandross should be honored as one of the great balladeers of all time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why God Invented DVD... December 15, 2001
...when Luther gets to "those serious love songs" and takes his time on the classics "Superstar" and "A House is Not A Home" you will definitely appreciate the foresight of the many powers that be who thought to record this concert! It is enhanced by the DVD Video Surround Sound Mix--as evident in the mindblowing echo vamp and the background vocal sweetenings in "Superstar" and Lu's microphone walk-by before "A House..." And there are a couple of funny spots in here, unintentional and planned--Ava Cherry's full on go-go dance routine to Doc Powell's guitar solo making Lisa Fischer miss her vocal cue, Lu's dance steps in "Heard it Thru the Grapevine" and "She Won't Talk to Me",
are mebbe worth a mention. Overall, though, for the price and it's sheer entertainment value...15 showstopping Luther, Kevin, Ava and Lisa live performances at one of the best venues in the cannot beat it!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Stop! to Love" this video! February 23, 2001
Format:VHS Tape
I LOVED this concert and sat there mesmerized when I first watched it. It is a known fact that Luther Vandross has one of the most recognizable voices in the industry. No one can touch him vocally, stylistically.
This night of romance in this Wembly concert captures Luther at his best! (Big and Beautiful) He mixes oldies but goodies ("Searching"/"Never too Much"/"Love Won't Let Me Wait") with newer ones of that time ("Come Back"/"Stop to Love"/"She Wont Talk to Me"/"Give Me the Reason")
The focus is on him and his backup singers, who are elegantly dressed in glittery evening gowns and diamond-studded tuxedo, while his wonderfully talented band is in the orchestra pit, directed by Nat Adderly Jr. Kyle Turner is the featured sax man on this tour.
Every song is cleverly choreographed with sassy, classy and sophisticated moves from Ava Cherry, Kevin Brown & and Lisa Fisher. They dance almost effortlessly on a circular stage that is slowly rotating 360 degrees the entire time. The energy is magnetic and the playfulness between him and his singers will bring smiles and laughter. The joking with his band members and talking to the audience is an added bonus.
On his classic "signature" ballads, "Superstar" and "A House is Not A Home" Luther is truly breathtaking. We see why he's the master of his craft. I'm talking chills down your spine from those silky riffs, runs and ad libs. And NO ONE can break it down like "Lu".
Nuff said. Go and get your own to see/hear what I'm talkin' about. You will want to watch this tape again and again!
Peace. CLB.

If you love Luther and or have seen him in concert this is the DVD to own. Luther is at his best and the concert feel can be felt in the privacy of your own home without having to ask the person in front of you to sit down.
