Friedenthal was born in Munich in 1896 and this was translated into English in 1970. Tons of research must of went into this book as every minor character is fleshed out, and there's dozens and dozens of them(the book is 566 pages long including sources and index). This really gives you a detailed look at the era with all its social, economic, and religious trends. Not a lot of psychological insights into Luther's personality, but allows you to discover your own insights from the liberal quotations from Luther's written works.
