Product Description

Color: White

Combine the convenience of a motion sensor with the functional ambiance of a dimmer with Lutron's Maestro Occupancy Sensor Dimmer. The latest innovation in Lutron's beloved collection of Maestro lighting controls, this combination dimmer and sensor switch turns the lights on and off for you and allows you to dim to your favorite level. It's a simple, easy and low cost way to save energy and add light automation to your home. The dimmer works just like a Lutron Maestro dimmer, gradually turning lights on and off, allowing your eyes to adjust to the new light level. Use the rocker to adjust the light level for any activity, or set the preset level to ensure lights always turn on to your desired light level. Equipped with ambient light detection, you can customize your sensor dimmer to detect daylight so lights don't turn on with enough natural light in your room. Keeping the sleek design of the Maestro family, Lutron sensors will match the décor of any room in your home. Install it in the laundry room for added convenience when your hands are full, or in the kids' rooms and never worry about lights being left on by mistake. Maestro Occupancy Sensor Dimmers work with any dimmable bulb type, including dimmable CFLs and dimmable LEDs as well as the common incandescent and halogen bulbs. This occupancy sensing dimmer can also be easily programmed to function as a vacancy (manual-on) sensor dimmer as well, perfect for use in bedrooms or kid's rooms.

This is a great switch. Stylish, smart, and well featured. Honestly I've looked at just about every switch on the market. If you want motion detection & fade on / off this is the only option. I had a previous generation of this switch die on me after about two years. Kind of bummper since the switch cost about $40. Really the price is my only complaint. I have 3 of these in my house all running custom programs. I've never tried this with LED's or CFL's. I wouldn't expect much if you do. LED and CFL's just don't dim well in my opinion and I don't think any switch could fix that.

Here's the logic I have used for these switches. If these sound like the type customizations you want, then I highly recommend this switch.

1. (Kitchen Under Counter Lights) Detect if someone comes into the Room, Fade from 0 to 30% brightness over 1.5 seconds. If no motion is detected within 1 minutes, fade to 0% over 3 seconds.

2. (Kitchen Main Lights) Manual on operation. Fade from 0 to 70% brightness over 3 seconds. If no mo motion is detect within 3 minutes, fade to 0% over 10 seconds.

3. (Main Room) Manual on operation. Fade from 0 to 60% brightness over 3 seconds. If no mo motion is detect within 10 minutes, fade to 0% over 15 seconds. Manual override brightness is locked to 80%.

I bought this to replace another dimmer I had that had a more traditional/old style look to it with a button at the bottom and the dimmer lever on top. The dimmer is installed in a bathroom and with use and in a damp environment the on/off switch at the bottom of the dimmer began to fail and had a short becoming unsafe. I wanted something that was before anything: SAFE.

What I like about this new dimmer is that you don't have to touch it at all to turn it on or off. Basically set it and forget it!!!! The sensor works great!. You can adjust how long the lights stay on after you leave the room and the lights go off gently with the dimmer. Makes the room look great. Best of all you can use it with regular incandescent bulbs or the energy savers CFLs.

I do have to mention that the setup I have has a total of 8 bulbs of 60w each, totaling 480w. Well within the safe range this dimmer provides (up to 600w incandescent or halogen) the dimmer has a metal "plaque" around the switch. This metal plaque gets very hot with 480w, so much so that I became concerned and didn't place the wall plate back on right away. I removed 4 bulbs, leaving only 240w and the plaque is slightly warm. I will be switching all 8 light bulbs to CFLs (150w max) to prevent any heat on the dimmer itself.

I'm a woman and I was able to install this with no problem as a single location, if you need to install a companion dimmer or multiple locations you may need a more experienced electrician helping with this. The instructions are a bit cumbersome on the instruction booklet. Speaking of the instruction manual its in English and Spanish. The English instructions are clear and easy to understand. The Spanish version lefts much to be desired, grammatical and spelling errors galore and you may need to decipher a bit. Now if you're reading this review you probably won't care about this ;)

Works perfectly!

Great replacement for my old mechanical dimmer.

Works great with LED bulbs I am using.

After installing be sure to go to Lutron's website and get more programming options.

I bought this because I wanted a switch that had multiple options for operation. This one is programmable and meets that needs.

I especially wanted one that was sensitive to the room ambiance so that it would not come on when there was sufficient light. Unfortunately, I haven't been successful in programming the switch to do that. The instructions say that it has to be "trained" to know when to not come on. I may have the dummy of the bunch because I haven't been able to train it yet.

When I called Lutron support they were VERY helpful. I've never had a product where I could easily talk to an engineer (or at least he said he was). They're also there 24x7 and you can actually talk to a real human who speak clear English.

Even though I haven't been successful yet in getting it to stay off during the day; I still highly recommend the product. It's got lots of other highly useful features, clear instruction on how to set them up and use them.

This product is a real "keeper".

I purchased several different LED bulbs and tried out all of them. Here are the results of my test:

New Cree TW 13.5W - best color rendition, but NOT compatible, occupancy sensor won't work.
New Cree TW 8.5W - best color rendition, works good with this dimmer/sensor, lower buzzing noise.
Philips 19W model BC19A21 - works good with this dimmer/sensor, but has more buzzing noise.
Philips 11W model BC11A19 - works good with this dimmer/sensor, lowest (not even noticeable) buzzing noise.
Ecosmart (Lighting Science) 14W model 75WEW27 - works good with this dimmer/sensor, medium buzzing noise.

I also checked the color rendition quality against a bunch of colored objects. The Cree TW is the best lighting up the colors. The Philips 19W and Ecosmart 14W are pretty good with the colors. The Philips 11W doesn't have as good color accuracy and it's a bit more pinkish in tone.

There is one programming setting that I always found useful to change from the factory default if your LED bulb is very bright. It is to change the "Occupied Level" from "100%" to "Preset" so that the sensor will turn on the lights to the last dimmed level that was manually selected.
