Other popular uses for these is to put one in your car so you don't enter a dark house or putting one by your bed so you can turn off a light without getting up.
So what is a Pico? A few years ago, Lutron came out with their new Clear RF wireless system where they used a new frequency and sort of unified all their wireless products to work within this frequency. Their old wireless stuff was pretty good too so this was a major update because it meant a device like a Pico or a wireless occupancy sensor would work with either a standalone $30 Maestro RF switch or dimmer if you just want to make one switch a 3-way switch and not interested in buying an entire system; it would work with a whole home system like the Radio Ra2, and it would work with the flagship Lutron Homeworks QS system's wireless devices. If you work with QS, you're factory certified so you already know this.
So what about you mere mortals, what will this little $33 switch do for you? By it self, absolutely nothing. But suppose you have a hallway with a switch at one end and the bubba who wired your house decided not to put one at the other end. Traditionally you would have to run a 3-wire from the first switch to the other or perhaps a 3 wire to the lightbox if that's easier and unless you have an attic above it, you would have to cut a whole lot of drywall, run wires, and know what you're doing as you install 3-way switches.Read more ›
Lutron MRF2-600MTHW-WH Maestro Wireless 600-Watt Multi-Location Dimmer with Controller and Wallplate, White
And I suggest buying the main set! I have these installed in my home with two remotes working off of each wired unit for double/triple pole equivalent - without the extra wiring.
The master is wired to switch, and each master set includes one remote. The remote can be loose, on your table or wherever. Or, you can mount the remote with included self-adhesive hardware - notice the shape of the remote? It is identical size/shape as paddle light switches and so you can mount the remote and use switch plate cover creating a second switch across the room or in hall - just like having two pole wiring. You program the remote easily at the master unit and can have several remotes on one. I have two separate masters in a smallish room (21x13 feet) and the remotes do experience cross interference - each remote operates the switch programmed to, even mounted side by side.
The remote has additional feature of "preferred setting" for dimming the lights with the center circle button (not on the master units.) Easy to set and I use it daily, for the night time setting, when watching TV.
YES - These (Maestro Wireless) do work to dim LED lights (which I have.)
I highly suggest considering these for light switch solutions and adding convenience plus dimming.
(I am about to order more to change out the kitchen/dining room switches!)
