It looks simple to use, but I found it a little difficult to get him in and out.

The mesh is horribly hard and rough... The baby has to have long shorts/pants and a shirt that will guard against chaffing.

It's like a "messenger bag" except with a baby in it instead of files or documents.

Well, no matter, I was younger and stronger then and I managed somehow.

I did have a Snugli soft carrier for my babies and we used a backpack-type carrier a few times for hikes, etc. which was suitable for my husband to use (Not me -- I couldn't stand not being able to see the baby, so I only used front-packs.)

But this hip carrier is a whole 'nother type of item. It's NOT suitable for hands-free use for a little infant --- The little grandbaby I use this with needs me to keep one hand supporting her head while she's in it -- she's only 3 months old.

But oh my goodness, what a huge relief to have that second hand free !!!

If you are reading this review at all, then surely you know EXACTLY what I am talking about.

I love that this carrier is simple, minimalist even, in design --- It doesn't have gobs of straps and buckles and fabric taking up too much of the real estate on my chest or making it a big production getting baby into it. Baby slides down into it, sits on my hip facing either in or out, and there's one strap over the opposite shoulder. Period.

It's like a "messenger bag" except with a baby in it instead of files or documents.

This baby likes to be carried and jiggled constantly, and if I didn't have this I'd be carrying her with two hands, because "OMG" she's heavy --- I was getting "tennis elbow" from babysitting her

:>)

So, I am using this thing as a way to (1) take 90% of her weight off my arms and put that weight onto my hip --- perfect !!!

and (2) to get one hand free to do stuff with -- I'm not trying for two hands, at least till she's older.

For these two purposes, it is absolutely perfect !!

The mesh is horribly hard and rough... The baby has to have long shorts/pants and a shirt that will guard against chaffing. Not as easy to use as I thought it would be... you kinda have to squeeze both you and baby into it. I wouldn't think it would be very comfortable to sit in.
Also weight recommendations contradict each other... The tag says 20 pound limit and the booklet says 24 pound limit.. not sure which is right.

We will be taking a cruise this fall and I need something to carry my son around it. I was hoping to use something other than a traditional sling as they can get hot and often need readjusting. I purchased this thinking it might work as he likes to be on my hip, but it would help keep my hands free and give my arms a break from holding him. It looks simple to use, but I found it a little difficult to get him in and out. After several tries this did get easier, but was still slightly more difficult than I would like. With multiple uses over time this may not be an issue, but I don't know. The biggest issue is the fact that the strap cuts into my neck terribly. In the photo is shows the strap on the woman's shoulder, but it does not stay there. I readjusted and readjusted, which is difficult to do with my son in the carries due to his weighing it down (and he's not a heavy baby-20 lbs at 15 months). Every time I got it on my shoulder, it slipped back to my neck within a few minutes and was quite painful. They need to redesign the shoulder part so it stays on the shoulder.
I do like that it folds up into its own pouch which is relatively small and has a strap to attach it to a stroller. I just wish it would stay in place. Unfortunately I am sending this back and will try something else.

we found it is difficult for the parent to use baby hip carrier due to lot of strain on the parent. It makes moving around difficult due to back pain associated with the strain.
