This review is from: O Lux Beata: Renaissance Harp Music (Audio CD)
This is a nicely done recording; certainly not a five-star, but still one I would put high on a list recordings for fans of early music -- three to four stars. In addition to the harp, there is an interesting mix of other instruments thrown in. I particularly enjoyed the renaissance bagpipe numbers. Often, harp recordings go for a sweet, lovely and gentle effect. However, the overall tone of this recording gives one the impression that you are at a renaissance dance at the local tavern. Not that everything is a ground pounding dance, there are quiet numbers here, but they seem to function as your opportunity quaff some ale before we get geared up for the next dance. Recommended.
