Great product,

I have had one of these for several years now and I really like it. It fairly easy to program and once you are done and close the flip up door its very easy to use day-to-day.
I am back to buy one for my 85 year old mother and the key was to keep it simple. There are only three buttons on the outside. Override up and down and the light button. The override lasts only until the next program starts so it perfect. The light really helps since it's in a hallway and its nice not to have to turn the lights on. The display includes the time, target temp and current temp. It only shows two of the three values at one time so it has to flip back and forth between two of them every couple of seconds but that is the only thing that is less than perfect. It does have a "hold" button which is good for when you are away and want to keep the temp set at one point. I really like that its not cluttered with fancy buttons, a touchscreen or so many features that it takes away from its simplicity.

Superior Temperature Accuracy,
This review is from: Lux TX1500E Smart Temp Programmable Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased 2 TX1500s to replace the Carrier digital thermostats that came with my house. The old ones were very inaccurate, sometimes as much as 6 degrees off the true temperature. I purchased these mostly based on the positive Consumer Reports review, and I'm happy to say that this model keeps extremely accurate temperature - never off by more than 1 degree from true temperature. My house is much more comfortable during winter and summer now. This unit does all the basics right, is well worth the price, and I would buy it again. Besides the accuracy, the programming is relatively flexible - while there is only 1 weekday setting, Saturday and Sunday are separate settings.
Programming is mostly intuitive, however, some miscellaneous settings are not. (Like the filter change notification, which is reset using the "Up" button) The default program is set for the Energy Star recommended temperatures. Although the Energy Star settings are a bit unrealistic, (such as sleeping with the AC set to 82 degrees during the summer) it gives something to base your program on. Another plus is the indiglo type light button that lets you see the screen in the dark. There are a couple of minor negatives. First, a larger screen would be nice - you can't see the current and set temps from more than a few feet away. Also, this may not bother some people, but I don't like the fact that the set temperature and time aren't shown on the screen at the same time - I find the blinking back and forth between the two values annoying. Despite this, I still rate this unit at 5 stars since the core functionality is top notch.

The TX 1500 is everything consumer products and Amazon reviews said it would be. Easy to install, easy to program, and works flawlessly. I look forward the energy savings in the coming months.

Received the item in the factory packaging with complete instructions.
Very easy to install and program - user friendly. Works like a champ and is already saving me money on my heating bill. Wish I would have purchased it years ago as it definitely is a money saver. I choose this one based on Consumer Reports recommending it as a best buy and user friendly programming capability.

Return was a nightmare,

This review is from: Lux TX1500E Smart Temp Programmable Thermostat (Tools & Home Improvement)
this product didn't work, when we called Lux to return the item we NEVER got any of our calls returned. After 5 attempts we finally got someone to give us a return number and we shipped it back. Then we waited and waited for the credit to hit our account and it never did. We disputed the item through our bank and they did a temp. credit for 60 days and attempted to contact Lux to resolve this. Lux never even contacted our bank to resolve the credit dispute. I would NEVER purchase something from this company!

I have had this model for at least 7 years and I came here to buy another TX1500 for my girlfriend. I had bought the model HD sells for her and it stinks--loses programming when the power fails. This Lux model is stone-cold reliable. Batteries (I use Duracell) have always lasted a full year in heat only use--I change them every Thanksgiving. My only complaint is the buttons require very firm pushing after several years and could have been more responsive from the beginning--this lost them 5 stars. I like the 5-1-1 programming; it requires less button pushing to program. However, don't buy it if you don't work Mon-Fri on the same schedule.

Removing the old mercury-switch unit proved to be far more complicated a task than installing this Lux thermostat. It took about an hour from start to finish to replace the old unit. The Lux device is working fine. It's easy to program and manages the temperature as advertised. I'm very pleased!

The "next" button wore out after a couple of uses. Without a working "next" button you can no longer change any of the settings, and you really have to buy a new thermostat. The other buttons do not work well either; they are extremely sluggish. You feel really lucky when they work. It is too expensive for something that wears out that fast.
