Book Description

Luxury Houses September 15, 2005
Living in the country means enjoying peace and calm far away from urban stress. The country retreats we create for ourselves reflect this difference. A measure of the value we place on our rural sanctuaries is the attention paid to every aspect of their design and construction. Today's rural retreats are far more luxurious, with a greater emphasis on rich and exceptional materials. Yet these dwellings are still quite different from their city counterparts. The houses featured in these pages embody a simpler yet no less stylish attitude towards life. Country houses all over the world have been selected for their distinctive architecture and interiors. ? A lavishly illustrated, round-up that spotlights the best house designs for country settings ? Inspiration and ideas for all who would like to upgrade a country retreat, as well as for those who would like to create one

5.0 out of 5 stars Twenty-Two Beautiful Houses, January 19, 2006
This review is from: Luxury Houses Country (Hardcover)
With room to spread out; often a view of the ocean, valley, mountain or lake; fewer restrictions on things like building codes, the opportunity to develop fantastic houses away from city life has long been popular. At one end of the scale is a crowded campground or small house in a crowded area. At the other end are the houses shown here.

In this book the author has selected twenty-two houses that I believe any of us would call luxurious. From a 16,000 square foot house in upstate New York overlooking a valley to homes with a view of the sea in Hawaii, Italy and other places, the homes here are fantastic. Each house is profusely illustrated with color pictures.

This book is produced by teNeues. The teNeues books are truly beautiful. The company is headquartered in Germany and they bring a sense of quality to their books that is not common. The books are printed on heavy paper using very high quality printing techniques. While this is essentially a coffee table picture book, or perhaps an idea book for the house you are planning, it is beautifully done, almost a work of art.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST IN THE LUXURY SERIES !!!!, April 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Luxury Houses Country (Hardcover)
This book in my opinion is the best in the "Luxury" series. I rarely buy a book sight unseen and have sometimes been very disappointed doing that BUT I had not seen this book until I received it in the mail today and was very impressed, it truly is a masterpiece. I usually find some of the houses in these kind of books not to my taste but every single house in here is excellent and intriguing in the quality of the design, and color and texture. If I had to zero in on my favorites in here, I would say I love Southern Charm (on page 32, Atlanta, Georgia)that includes a very charming flamingo poster. Then there is Calm and Exotism (on page 100, Ibiza, Spain) with contrasting textures. Also wonderful was Perfect Hosts ( page 110 on the Big Island in Hawaii) with lushness that makes me want to go to the Big Island. Another winner was Elegance in the Alps ( page 126 in Megeve, France with wonderful paintings Terrestrial Paradise ( page 144 in Bali, Indonesia) has exquisite indoor and outdoor spaces and great plantings. Residence in Pasadena (page 154, Pasadena, Ca.) is gorgeous with wonderful fabrics and an amazing carved canopy above the bath tub. The outdoor photos are somewhat reminiscent of Maxfield Parrish paintings. The four poster bed is very impressive with wonderful carpet underneath. Also good was A Noble Residence (page 190 Oxfordshire, UK ) with whimsical childrens room with doll house at the foot on one of the beds that also has a fabric draped over it from the overhead beam. This book certain will not disappoint the most discerning eye and I would place it in my top 5 interior design books that I have ever seen. Enjoy the feast for the eye !!! A thousand stars !!!!
