5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos, July 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Lyfe Jennings: Lyfe 268-192 (Audio CD)
I think it was a brilliant idea to rerelease this album. He's finally (FINALLY!!) getting his props. Folks have been sleeping on him for far too long. The album is so worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, October 15, 2005

I got this CD and am addicted to it. He has an amazing voice and lets it shine. He tells a story thru each song- the lyrics are deep. If you are into soul and r&b you will love this. It is worth the money. This artist is under rated.

5.0 out of 5 stars This man is a lyrical monster............, September 15, 2005
This review is from: Lyfe Jennings: Lyfe 268-192 (Audio CD)
I actually give this CD 1,000 stars,I love this CD. I bought this CD close to 9 months ago & it has NOT left my CD player since. He has such a soulfoul voice, his words are real, his lyrics are deep, this man is beautiful. He gave everybody a chance to go into what he has been through. He takes your respect whether you want to give it to him or not. (Of course, I'm giving it to him) I love this man & this CD. It's worth every penny of it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lyfe and times, February 18, 2006
This review is from: Lyfe Jennings: Lyfe 268-192 (Audio CD)
Just to clarify, it wouldn't be exactly fair to call Lyfe Jennings a new artist. This album actually came out in August 2004, so it's inaccurate for people to call it one of the best albums of 2005 (but don't worry; I didn't know that either). Anyway, Lyfe was in prison for ten years, but he turned himself around, picked up a guitar, and produced an album that takes us through his trials and tribulations, Lyfe 268-192.

"Must Be Nice" is only a taste of how great this album is. From there Lyfe further explores his vocal skills, which are good but also a little surprising because admit it, if you didn't know him and you saw him in the studio, wouldn't you think he was a rapper? (It's not unlike when people first saw Jaheim.) The spiritual "Made Up My Mind" is the best example of this, because what he does with his voice is just, well, just listen to it.

Another thing I love about this album is how creative the ideas for songs are. There are tracks that successfully have Lyfe and the woman trading off their stories, whether it be meeting up with a old crush years later ("The Way I Feel About You") or seeing how deep the love is, no matter how risky ("Hypothetically"). And I have NEVER heard a song that is so real and introspective as "She Got Kids", which describes how things could be if a man gets in a relationship with a woman who already has children. But "Greedy" isn't far behind either (although some single mothers might not like it). I couldn't get into "Stick Up Kid", though.

I also thought that Lyfe's narration at the end of every song was a little unnecessary. But those two things don't get in the way of this great album. So pick it up and I guarantee that after one listen, you'll be pro-Lyfe.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST CD I'VE PURCHASED ALL YEAR, October 10, 2005

I finally bought Lyfe's album after the local radio station started playing "Stick Up" Kid. I know I was a little late purchasing the album. I'm so mad at myself for not getting it earlier. This has to be the best album I've bought in a really long time. It's even better that my John Legend album (I skip around on that CD but with Lyfe, I love ALL the songs). After having the CD for a few weeks, I was thrilled to discover that he was performing at a local venue. I waited a couple hours to see him, but it was WELL worth the wait. He sounded really good, unlike a lot of artists who perform live. He seemed very down to earth and really involved the audience in the concert. I'm looking forward to his national tour soon. The CD is definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars IF DMX PICKED UP A GUITAR..., September 7, 2005
This review is from: Lyfe Jennings: Lyfe 268-192 (Audio CD)
That's what ran thru my mind when I first pushed play...I must admit, initially, I thought I had been duped into to buying another CD suggested by my little brother who, like me, loves music, but is almost ten years younger and doesn't have the music collection or the history of loving all types of music, especially songs with lyrics that have nothing to do with being "horny like I'm fresh outta jail...", but I digress...So while "Must Be Nice" was just that, NICE, and the interludes between tracks moved his story along, I truly was not impressed and was about to call E to let him know that once again his stock had dipped, when "She Got Kids" came thru my headset...I found myself totally engrossed in the gritty, honest way in which this brother expressed not being sure if he could be with a woman with children that were not his own....WOW...Not to knock men that date and marry women with children that are not theirs and go on to raise them, but Lyfe clearly expresses that if you "ain't ballin'" like a Gerald Levert (So What, If You Got A Baby?) a man may not ready to be a father to another man's child...I don't have to like it, but I respect the message...

With that said, Lyfe goes on to chronicle his "life" (no pun intended) with songs that are as deep and raw as the hardest Ninja on the block and yet, he manages to make me care about what he's singing about from a definitively male perspective..."Hypothetically", a duet with vocalist Erin, tells the tale of a couple discussing the what ifs that could ruin their relationship without being sappy; while tracks like "Stick Up Kid", "26 Years, 17 Days" and "I've Made Up My Mind" relate his story of doing whatever it takes to get over, finding his spirituality and calling out the hypocrits that judge him while sitting in church on Sunday, yet raise hell Monday to Saturday...All this without being contrite or preachy but decidely real, I can truly say this is one of the best CD's I've bought in a while...Thanks E!

5.0 out of 5 stars FRESH OUT THE PIN............., June 29, 2006
This review is from: Lyfe Jennings: Lyfe 268-192 (Audio CD)
FRESH OUT THE PIN, IT's OBVIOUS THAT LYFE JENNINGS IS IN IT TO WIN!!!! And 268-192 is a Touchdown and a Field Goal that could win the Game. Lyfe is what they call a very motivational speaker. His choice of subjects on this album cannot really relate to anyone under the age of 13, But quality of every song could have anyone of any age humming and reciting his tunes. The way he pin points certain subjects on this album can really make you say to yourself more than once, "Damn, He's Right"!!!

THIS ALBUM IS A MUST HAVE!!!!!!
