Product Description

The Lying Promise is controversial and confrontational. It is a book exposing shocking scriptural distortions disseminated by Christianity's biggest names. In 416 pages the author confronts celebrated, Christian leaders regarding little-known departures from orthodoxy. Dr. Malcolm L. Lavender wrote, "Daniel LaLond Jr. blows the trumpet in Zion, warning God’s people!" Though The Lying Promise is scholarly it is written in an engaging, conversational style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rings of truth..., December 17, 2007
I too have read this and shared it with many. It is well written and thoughtful...powerful prose and unashamed zeal pour from it's pages as this man seeks to defend the honor of the true gospel message. Read your Bible and then take up this defence of what you have just read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved FROM sin rather than IN it., May 29, 2008
I was surprised by this book. Surprised because I found that what I hear on the radio from popular teachers is not the whole story. The Lying Promise plainly exposed contradictions on basic Christian doctrine within the teachings of modern Christianity. We often hear Drs. Evans, Lutzer or Swindoll (and a host of others) talking about sin, holiness or repentance, but the whole of their teaching (as shown in The Lying Promise) gives licence to sin and mocks biblical repentance rather than actually upholding scriptural principles-issues I was unaware of prior to deeper study.

The Lying Promise is well studied, thoroughly documented (800+ footnotes), and convincingly written. The book was a challenging read, but well worth the effort. I recommend The Lying Promise to any who are interested in deeper examinations of Grace, The Gospel, sin, law and biblical salvation. The book introduced me to a life changing concept...that Jesus saves FROM sin rather than IN it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Well Written, Challenging Read., February 26, 2009
I normally don't read much "theology." So when I started The Lying Promise I wasn't sure I would make it through all 400+ pages. To my surprise, however, I found it very readable.

The book is laid out very systematically so one might read only one of it's five sections and still get the point (of that section at least). I found that some of it was very technical theology ie. the security of the believer, the extent of the atonement, law verses grace etc. Yet, it is laced with creative, even poetic language making even in depth topics very enjoyable reading.

LaLond convincingly shows that Dr.s Swindoll, Evans and Lutzer have, indeed, strayed far from the founders that they claim to represent. After seeing side by side quotations from men like D.L. Moody and R. A. Torrey compared with Evans and Swindoll I'm not sure how any honest reader can believe that Moody Press is "The Name You Can Trust."

When it comes to controversial issues such as eternal security and law verses grace etc I try to be unbiased and honest. Having said that I find that LaLond's arguments for the popular positions he opposes are quite convincing. I recommend The Lying Promise to all who are willing to take an honest look at some difficult, but critical topics.
