Fantastic series, October 23, 2006

I WISH I had known about these techniques when I was teaching regular elementary school. It would have been a lot more fun. Now I work with severely handicapped special needs students, using Love and Logic, and am constantly amazed, both at how gentle, and how powerful, it is.
It has also totally changed the dynamics of my grandson's home and I now expect that he will survive into adulthood and his parents will retain their freedom and sanity. (Only 1/2 joking - parenting can be TOUGH for everyone).
As an psychology student, teacher and parent, I have read MANY parenting books and wound up frustrated because there are so many judgment calls - be firm but not harsh, be understanding but not wishy-washy, always be consistant (but the kids aren't), explain/don't explain ... Oh my goodness, how do you decide?
L & L is clear, consise, simple, AND flexible. It's win - win. I can remember the steps! The kids FEEL the fairness, and the careing! So do I.
PS If it's a cultist plot it's not working. It's teaching the kids to THINK for themselves... and I enjoyed the funny voices and laughter... With so many experts frowning and shaking their fingers at me, it's nice to lighten up and think that I haven't completely ruined my child's life by some of the things that passed out of my mouth directly from my parents and their parents and...

I know the history of this series as I was a special needs teacher. The previous review is based on ignorance and, apparently, a need to voice an opinion that belongs in a blog - not on a book review.
