Product Description

'He could just see himself, in a year or so, going back home with his pockets stuffed with cash and his Da, Zach and Ma welcoming him with big smiles and open arms. It would be that grand he could hardly wait.'

But when Malachy Flynn finds himself mixed up with the Conway family in Dublin, he realises that making money isn't always easy - or legal.  Then there's Brogan.  No-one messes with Brogan.  Ever.

Tom Oliver, a handsome bachelor farming in the north-east of England, has always enjoyed the intimate company of women, but he meets a dangerous match when his new dairyman moves in with his attractive wife and her younger sister.

When Mal becomes involved with Tom's family and his secret past catches up with him, revelations and death threaten to turn everyone's lives upside down. Can Mal protect those he loves or will he forever be watching over his shoulder, waiting for Brogan to take revenge?

From the Author

I've been a prolific reader all my life and always wondered if I could write a book myself.
After many false starts, I now have three books on Amazon Kindle.

The first, 'Lying in Wait' (98.5k words) is general fiction with strong thriller and romance elements.  Writing 'Lying in Wait' confirmed something I had long suspected - that I didn't want to stick to a single genre in my writing.  Being an Indie author frees me from the constraints placed on writers by many conventional publishers to write a book that fits easily into a slot on a particular shelf in a bookstore.  E-books have changed everything, and as a writer I now feel free to go wherever my characters take me.

My second book is 'Meggie Blackthorn'  (66k words).  Meggie is an enterprising eleven-year-old growing up in the north-east of England in the early 1960s, who gets herself into one dreadful mess after another.  Unlike 'Lying in Wait', Meggie contains no bad language, sex or strong violence and is suitable for all ages.  Writing the first Meggie book made me realise I prefer to write character-based novels with strong plots, rather than a strong plot with supporting characters.  I'm currently working on the second Meggie Blackthorn story.

The third, Friday 'Afternoon' is a short story of approx 1500 words.

I still love reading and get through dozens of books each year, but I absolutely adore putting pen to paper and creating stories that will entertain other readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting tale packed with twists, August 29, 2011
This review is from: Lying in Wait (Kindle Edition)
An extremely well written and exciting story through Ireland and the UK. The many twists and turns will keep you on your toes right till the end. Mal and the many characters end up in some pretty dire situations. The main character starts of as an innocent man who ends up being radically transformed.

Great price and well worth a read.

This review is from: Lying in Wait (Kindle Edition)
Elizabeth Jasper takes us on a journey of passion, crime, horse-racing and deceit in "Lying In Wait". Our hero is a young Irishman named Malachy Flynn and we follow him from his farm in Kerry to the bustling streets of Dublin where he seeks work and money to send back to his family. Once Mal falls into the dubious alliance with the Conway family and their nefarious leader James Brogan, his life takes a downward spiral into robbery and murder and it is only with the help of pretty Jess Ellison that he manages to temporarily escape his dark past. With a heart-pounding finish and some totally unexpected twists your only question will be: Can Mal possibly survive? A Well-written and edited book full of rich characterizations and spot-on descriptions of the British Isles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Skeletons in the closet, June 27, 2011
This review is from: Lying in Wait (Kindle Edition)
This book has something for everyone. The main character, Mal, is the thread that draws the plot strands together. Part thriller, part romance. Evocative settings, moving from Ireland to England, city to countryside.
The plot follows Mal's development from red-faced innocent to unwitting criminal. He circulates through society, making very human mistakes and bad decisions. There's an element of the martyr in him as his own ideals cause Mal to deny himself a normal, decent life. But the people that surround him come to see the goodness in his heart.
I found the characters very real and the locations authentic. Well worth the read.

More About the Author

Born and raised in the NE of England, I have moved around quite a lot. I'm currently dividing my time between Spain and the UK.

I spent most of my working life in various administrative capacities in prestigious UK universites, where I organised Summer Schools and Study Tours, as well as carrying out a variety of administrative functions. I liked working for a living - it paid the bills - but I love writing even more. These days I am fortunate enough to be able to write full-time and have completed two full-length novels, both available on Amazon Kindle: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lying-in-Wait-ebook/dp/B0055T772K/and http://www.amazon.co.uk/Meggie-Blackthorn-ebook/dp/B005UBZOPA/.

My primary aim as a writer is to entertain and engage my readers. I write across genres in order to expand my characters beyond the stereotypes often found in genre books and no matter how dark the material, I hope I can raise a smile or two along the way. A tear is even better.
